We tried several sorts of mattresses in a local shop, settled on the one we preferred and then found a similar sounding one on eBay. Shop price was £700, eBay price was £200 delivered. It was even nicer than the local shop. We use a thick foam topper on it too as we like the sinking in but still firm feeling. The foam was £60 from Amazon and we change it every 2 years when it starts going a bit less “memory” foam and more “forgettable” foam. Mattress is on year 10 now and still great, no dips or lumps thanks to the topper.5

Lots of useful mattress suggestions, thank you!
So here we are at the weekend 😊😊 well, for those of us who are fortunate enough not to work on a Friday, anyway 😂
We are, of course, having tea and toast in the cafe 😊 £9.40 spent. So, a plan for today, which might spill into tomorrow...
10.30-12: LEISURELY MORNING
* nip into town
12-1: WORK
* finish off a bit of work I didn't quite finish yesterday - NOT in the habit of this, but I couldn't stay late yesterday.
1-5 CEILING
* send photos of ceiling to building regs geezer
* finish ceiling battens
* put up final 3 pieces of plasterboard (and then do a celebratory dance!)
* seal round all plasterboard edges - this will be a complete nuisance and make a mess so may take the whole rest of the day
5-7: COOKING
* Make some wholesome tea
* bit of batch cooking for the freezer
EVENING
* banks and YNAB
* check Mr Cheery paid his NI contributions and dig out the letter if he didn't
* pay garage bill
That'll probably do for today - really want to prioritise the ceiling and not get sidetracked with other things!4 -
Woo hoo, "leisurely morning" is on the list, yay! And I love the focus on the ceiling, it's going to be brilliant to have it finished.2023: the year I get to buy a car3

Looking forward to photos of completed ceiling Cheery - sounds like it'll be cause for a virtual party!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thank you both!
Well, I am behind on my self-imposed schedule, needless to say 😂 We lingered in the cafe, then had a leisurely potter in the charity shops, and of course I forgot about leaving space for lunch...
But the work is now done, nd I'm just having a final cuppa before starting the ceiling.
Bit of a spendy morning in the end.
£13 in the cafe (we had a second drink)
£11 in the chemist - Mr Cheery's prescription & a couple of other small bits
£10 in the charity shops on a new bright yellow coat and some writing paper for me and a sporran (!) for Mr Cheery 😂
£9 in the cheap shop, on all manner of things from emery boards to stationery to 30p salad cream 😂
Nothing wildly extravagant but it does add up!
Right, tea and the ceiling - and yes I will post a picture once I've cleaned up the kitchen a bit 😂6 -
OK, here is the ceiling in all its glory 😂
I still need to tidy the edges and paint a few panels, but I've sent to buildings regs anyway at this point - they're not assessing my painting skills after all (I hope 😂)
Mr Cheery has unhelpfully chosen this point to go for a nap, so DIY is on hold til he gets back up. Might toddle off into the garden instead.6 -
Does Mr Cheery have a 28day prescription? No need to answer that obviously. If he does 13 x regular charge. Prepayment cert = 10 x regular prescription charge. Even a 30 day one would save money if you get the timing right. With my sons I get 14 (x28) to a cert. It's all in the timing.

Thanks badmemory. He had a 12 month one that lapsed recently - we forgot about it until we'd paid for 2 prescriptions, and then it wasn't worth getting a 3 month one as he's 60 next month so they'll be free anyway. Shouldn't need any more until after his birthday unless anything untoward happens.
I can't see a 30 day one anywhere? The NHS link seems to say 3 or 12 months.

30 day probably won't be worth it now anyway as there's not much more than that left to go!5 -
Oh it’s beautiful now it’s finished Cheery, and the whole space looks lovely! You must be sooo pleased (although it’s always the last niggly bits that are the most annoying - ref painting and tidying bits).
You deserve a 🍹 and definitely some 🍰. 🥳🥳🥳🥳 Cheers! 🥂Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
