Is a "Bank Holiday" treated any differently to a "weekend day" by the banks?

Always feel for those who have to work on bank holidays, public holidays, whatever you want to refer to those days as. They're just bonus days off for me (usually).Some times I get a taste of what it's like - such as when it was the Queens Jubilee. Having to go to work, being dead as hell because most other people are off work enjoying themselves. We got the day to use elsewhere which was a plus and probably worked out better actually but it was still a sickener to be at work knowing full well most of the land are doing whatever they please right at that very moment.1

@JustAnotherSaver
I know what you mean....I work in a department that works at least 6 days a week, and people have also been asked all this weekend and the next 2 days a well. I'm on a different contract and in a different role so I never have to work Saturdays and I'm guaranteed the BHs off. Made worse by the fact that I'm also the one chasing them to ensure we have enough staff to work on the BHs too. They also work different shifts and I don't. I consider myself very lucky that they all still like me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. So people who work in pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, supermarkets, drive buses, trains, work in gyms, leisure centres, airports, cafes, shops, theme parks, tourist attractions etc aren't part of the "normal working population" or are they emergency workers
Today I'm off to the leisure centre for a game of squash, my wife's going to the gym then the supermarket, loads of people will be out shopping at the sales, getting trains, buses and trams there, lots of people will off down the pub tonight. Should see quite a lot of "emergency workers" who are working today!Banks will be shut though3 -

Should see quite a lot of "emergency workers" who are working today!Banks will be shut thoughThe matter is significantly complicated by the different days during the so called "festive period". This year on Saturday it was Christmas Day the day on which normally all commercial premises are shut. Then the following day (Sunday) was Wrestling Day traditionally often used by many shops inviting customers to come in and join the wrestling for their Sales bargains.Then today (Monday) I presume is designated as a substitute day off due to Christmas Day being on Saturday. However for many employees working in shops, on public transport etc Saturday is normally a working day so they may well work today.The bottom line for me is that term Bank Holiday is an ancient and outdated term since Public Holidays (as I think they should be called) affect the entire working population and not just banks. Indeed, as far as I am concerned, banks are not shut today since I do all my banking online or by phone. So for me banks are open on every Public Holiday.Tomorrow (Tuesday) will presumably be substitute Wrestling Day but, as Wrestling Day itself was on Sunday, who knows who exactly will be working or wrestling tomorrow?Indeed, supermarkets were mostly shut on 25th Dec which wasn't a bank hol, and are mostly open today which is a bank holiday. So "public holiday" would be a bit meaningless for the millions who work in supermarkets or other occupations I listed. They affect some of the working population, but employers don't have to give people paid time off on bank holidays unless it's in their contract. So they are not really "public holidays"."Bank holidays" is a reminder that even automated banking stuff eg direct debits, payments in are affected, if our payday is a bank holiday we get paid the previous non bank holiday weekday, if DDs are due to go out they are delayed till the next non bank hol weekday etc.

As daughter is working today & yes she works in a bank.... Speaking to a good friend that worked Christmas Day. A lot of the calls taken were. Just rung to see if you were open today & wish you a happy Christmas.... 🤣
Really now, there should be no need for any day not to be a working day & payments go out.Life in the slow lane1
