Is a "Bank Holiday" treated any differently to a "weekend day" by the banks?

I use faster payments to transfer money on a Sunday from Tesco Internet Saver to my "Hub" current account to cover outgoings from the Hub on the Monday. I assume these FP`s will also work on a Bank holiday eg Tuesday 28/12/21 and Monday 3/1/22?

What won't work for most banks is the payment of a scheduled Faster Payment to another bank on a weekend or public holiday, but a payment requested manually on the day should be possible; Tesco is/was an exception in allowing outgoing payments to be scheduled to be paid on any day - a facility that I miss from the then-interest-paying Tesco Current Accounts.

Try telling that to retail workers, emergency workers etc etc etc....

Forward dated payments from the Tesco Internet Saver will pay on the date you set regardless of weekend or holiday status. It's one of the things I like about it

It's because of how they started. Bank holidays created statutory law holidays equivalent to common law holidays of Christmas Day and Good Friday by enshrining the same terms for payments on such days.

I agree it's a bit of a misnomer these days as even the banks will be open in one way or another.
Frankly what happens with payments depends on the bank/card. I have some things that now happen on weekends that didn't previously so it's all a bit hit and miss.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Yes - even though the branches are closed there are still branch staff working as well as a good majority in the call centres.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
