Good morning, I didn't post yesterday because my laptop didn't want to play, and by the time I got it sorted out I thought it was a bit late in the day.I've woken early as usual, thought I might as well get up.I'm going out early for some bread, and that will be it, the shops will be heaving. My freezer is full, can get no more in there, not that I need anything more. I've got veg and fruit stored in the shed as well. I'll just be tidying today, and sorting out a few things to take to DD's tomorrow.Hope everyone is all right, thinking of the poorly people,Take care folks14

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet - I hope your shopping trip is short and sweet, no hordes. The star turn of my day yesterday was watching two small deer galloping across the field outside my house, jump over a gap in the drystone wall and disappear up the track. Funnily enough they seemed to be running from the big red tractor which was trundling down the track and behind them. Their flight instinct took over! Later on I was treated to the beautiful woodpecker feeding on sunflower hearts right next to my kitchen window. Sometimes happy moments get injected into a dull and unpromising day. 🎉Today I will take the venison casserole out of the freezer, prep the sprouts, adjust the seasoning of the red cabbage and look longingly at the Stollen I was sent from Berlin. 🤤I know that most of you will be caught up in getting Christmas sorted for families and assorted visitors over the next few days. With a sprinkling of luck things will work out better than last year. Some, like me, will be feasting on the happy memories of past times with now passed family. My thoughts are with everyone here. Happy Christmas Eve to all.15

I don't post here nowadays but want to send my Christmas wishes to all who do. Gers with a different Christmas this year but finding positives where she can. Those will health problems or family worries and anyone missing a face at their table .I doubt Dumplings family will be on MSE but she will never be forgotten by those who got to know her brave spirit over the years, Whether family worries or her own health in recent years she just got on with things to sort everything out to the best of her ability. Her love of Christmas shone out as did her love of family. A bright star in the heavens now and will always be remembered. by those of us lucky to have got to "know" her here.Take care all.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.11 -
Happy Christmas Eve everyone
Hope everyone is ok and not being headless chickens wherever possible. I can’t remember how many times in the past I’ve spent Christmas Eve rushing around packed supermarkets with sparse stocks to get that one essential item I was missing, queued for ages then didn’t bother eating it for days if at all. One year it was cranberry sauce. Anyway none that malarkey for me this year if it’s not in the cupboards so be it.
Defrosted the turkey crown so that’s going in the slow cooker in a bit for about 8 hrs on low so tomorrow I can focus on the best bits Ill warm the carved turkey in gravy when needed. I know some turn their nose up at using the slow cooker but it really does make the meat lovely and moist. It doesn’t brown of course but as I don’t like the skin its great for me. If I fancy I will prep the carrots sprouts and spuds too but lets not get too ambitious
Hoping for some good films today. Favourites would be any version of Christmas carol (especially the Muppets!) the Holiday, Elf and of course Love Actually J
Last night was sausage casserole and crusty bread. Tonight I will go for picky stuff I think, very tasty and easy
Don’t forget to track the big guy today he’ll be starting soon

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET for the early start. I was wide awake at silly o'clock too but not up and at 'em till about 6.00.
I have taken the gammon and turkey joints out to defrost, in readiness for cooking at silly o'clock tomorrow to take down to DDs mid morning. She is doing the starters, veg and desserts but, like other years, I will be mucking in with prepping those too with glass of Bucks Fizz in hand! I now have a bit of space in the smaller freezer and I am having to resist the urge to dash down town to buy something else to fill that space! I am starting my resolution early! One person and a cat do not need so much food hoarded!
In readiness for my day of sloth and idleness I have also taken out lots of picking bits and pieces to graze on whilst overdosing on tv throughout the day. I have yet to wade through what delights all the channels have to offer but top of my list will be the All Creatures Xmas special.
As I expected my DB and SIL opted for a doorstep exchange of cards and gifts yesterday. They are being ultra careful in view of my DB's problems and not even having their girls and DGC there Christmas Day for the first time. This virus has a lot to answer for. It was a bit too nippy for chatting long on the doorstep but I can understand their reasons.
Have a good day one and all, stay calm and find time to relax. I shall be thinking of our poorlies, poorly loved ones, recuperating and absent friends this Christmas. Take care xx

Morning all feels a tad warmer today Not a lot happening today just a clean through and I am done xmas day for us will be Boxing day when both the girls and SIL's come it was my turn last year so just DH and I tomorrow DS will be working to ensure Boxing day off I am missing cranberry sauce and xmas crackers but i am sure we will cope I really can't be bothered going out today .
Nmic glad to see you are all recovering
Hugs Gers thinking of you x
Hoping you all have a wonderful day tomorrow xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Morning everyone,
I was awake early as DH had a dead arm and was doing semaphore trying to turn over. No work for me today, and a late finish yesterday as boss had clearly forgotten I was off today and next week, so was sending requests across late afternoon. I sent DH and DS2 to Te$co for the last bits so we are now done. Family are here from 3pm today on a revolving door basis as some have other commitments. I will cook N!gella’s ham, coleslaw etc. plus I made some brownies yesterday, because clearly we all need more chocolate at Christmas.
The turkey crown is out ready for tomorrow. We have made the cauli cheese and stuffing, plus the red cabbage mush. Only sprouts, carrots, broccoli and potatoes to do in the morning. Just 5 of us this year plus DS1s puppy.
Good to see you posting nmlc – hope you and the family feel better soon
Love to all those who are struggling.
