Can anyone recommend excess insurance for care hire

A very good evening,

I hope you are well

I am renting a car abroad in Maderia Island next month which i have booked.  I see MSE has a list of Top excess insurance discounts: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire/

I see some have not the best reviews: Leisure Guard - https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.leisureguardinsurance.com

Any personal recommendations from the list or other provider would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

    https://www.bettersafe.com/car-hire-excess-insurance also have comprehensive cover.

    https://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/car-hire-insurance too, look good.
  • I tried the 3 above and got ridiculous £80+ quotes for 2 weeks cover !

Crooks and insurance companies how do you tell the difference?

That post was three years ago, so unlikely to be read by many, unlike the MSE article - what has your analysis of the current market shown to be good value for money (not necessarily 'cheapest' obviously) alternatives for your requirements?

Quite an unpleasant attack... Did it occur to you to try the ANNUAL option? Bettersafe is £46.99 and covers your sixteen day trip and more. 8% cashback via Quidco. Be nice.

I’ve been using Eversure for the last couple of years, annual worldwide cover for two drivers at around £60-65. Did some (but not extensive) research on MSE and elsewhere, and they appeared to have a reasonable combination of price, cover and reviews to meet my needs.

Caveat is that so far I haven’t had to make a claim, which is always the real test with insurance. Also note that they don’t cover rentals via Green Motion, but I don’t think they are alone in that.

It's difficult to judge these insurance companies until you actually have to make a claim. I've only ever made one claim on a car hire excess insurance policy and that was with Eversure. I thought the claims process was pretty painless and the money was in my account relatively quickly. I would certainly recommend them.

Having said this, I don't use Eversure all the time. I use Money Maxim to see who is offering the best deal at the time I need a policy.

I recently had an experience with Questor. Although I swear blind the slow puncture to the tyre was there when I picked it up (because the low pressure light came on pretty much within 30 mins of collecting the car), Questor sorted out the excess payment I had to make promptly. There was a bit of a slow start to my claim, but after waiting two weeks my claim was processed and paid within ten days. 4.7/5 for me.

This company has a decent reputation from what I've heard.
    An observation, not a recommendation.
