TotalAV hike …no notice

I really don't know why people feel the need to install additional free or paid for antivirus tools. Windows Defender and a good backup strategy, is adequate for the home market assuming you allow defender to auto update. If needs be maybe install malwarebytes free which can offer additional protection.
I think some of these companies deliberately try to instil their version of project fear and paranoia just to sell their products.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Spam is usually only kept for 10 days or so, if you were notified 30 days before renewal and that was last month you've got little to no hope finding it.1

If it is Gmail then does Spam get sent to the Bin, which then deletes anything older than 30 days (in the bin)?
If yes then there's an outside chance of it being in their Bin folder (if they're using Gmail).Jenni x1 -
Because for a very long time the built in windows firewall/AV *wasn't* good enough. People were told, for years, that they needed to install additional protection software. Now that MS have, to a degree, got their act together, people still go by what they were told.IvanOpinion said:I really don't know why people feel the need to install additional free or paid for antivirus tools. To be fair, defender was never that bad. It may not have been the best out there but it was perfectly adequate for the majority of people. I remember seeing an article several years back that the biggest issue with Defender was people not allowing it to auto-update. I would also argue that in many cases 'there is a virus' on my computer is an oft overused excuse for people not understanding how to use their computers properly (but they are complex beasts) - in my experience of sorting out dozens of PCs for people (due to claims of virus issues) I have only ever come across an actual virus on a couple of occasions.Ergates said:

I guess those with a product to sell had to focus on getting people to purchase their unnecessary product so putting down the competition is the norm. But then Defender became as good and, in some cases, better than the competition. Although I still believe that time of day plays as much of a role in how good an AV tool is, versus other factors.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!2
