TotalAV hike …no notice

I have just received a credit card bill which included a large amount for TotalAV. I bought last year at c£22 but this one is now over £118. Because it came out of my credit card over 30 days (I.e. at the beginning of the month) I have missed cooling off period but I received no notification, and by the time my credit card bill came, it was too late.

I am sure I will get nowhere with the company but thought a warning to others to check if they’ve bought it before as an increase over x5 is eyewatering at any time, especially at Christmas!

I hope this can at least warn others!

Were you entitled to a cooling off period anyway, given that this is a rollover of your existing subscription?

I suspect you were on an introductory rate for the first year, or something like that.  No harm in digging out your paperwork/emails to check the contract.  If they committed to notifying you of renewal and any change in pricing, and didn't do so, you can still take action against them.  If they behaved in accordance with the contract, there's nothing you can do.
  • Apparently cooling off is 14 days, I’ll have another look at the paperwork/emails re. The notification. So easy to get caught out with annual ones! Thanks for comments!

But that only applies to the original contract start point, it won't apply to contract renewal.

No…I’ve searched for it in my emails and spam….
  • In which case, go back to them and ask them for a copy of the renewal notice they sent you.

You don't really need Total or any other AV product if you are running W10 (or 11) as Windows Defender is perfectly adequate.
