    Just an MSE comment...

For many uses (but perhaps not all) ethanol is just as good and often less than half the price of isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol) or methylated spirits.  At the moment B&Q has meths at £4.37 for 0.5L or bioethanol at £8 for 2L.
  • That made me laugh robatwork.  Now I know👍

That's good to know as I bought a container of isopropyl from Amazon for £20.

As an aside, we bought a secondhand Dyson cleaner for my OH to vacuum the car. He didn't realise that the people selling it must own a dog, as everytime he uses it, it pumps out the smell of wet dog. Have washed the filters several times and still it pongs, so I can imagine what your conservatory must smell like.

  • You're right Slinky, the conservatory is unusable right now as smells disgusting.

I will buy the sealer mentioned on here then paint over with brand new paint.
That's a lesson learned for sure and all the tins of old pain't currently stored are going to the recycling centre.

I've done it twice in my lifetime. Perhaps with less disasterous results than yours as I realised before I got too far.

You could try cutting a tumble dryer sheet to same shape as filter and put alongside it,and drop a weighted piece of rope through hose  then attach a damp dish sponge and pull back and forth as a mandrel, might help dislodge the dog smell.

The funny/peculiar thing is the paint smelled normal when I opened the tin, just usual paint odour and even while painting there was no "off" smell. It was only when it dried that it was apparent and truly awful.

Am wondering  if this was because I was painting brick, which is very porous.

Interesting, wonder if the bricks should have been sealed first? Though you wouldn't have thought it would create a smell.
I'll read with interest before painting the breeze blocks in the garage!
