Bills on estimated readings by liquid
Hello All
Hope everyone is doing well, I use to be with Igloo energy, live in 3 bed mid-terraced rented house, and setup a DD when joined Igloo, and was advised by the customer service to turn off the remote monitor of the smart meter if I wish, and they will automatically get the readings,
When my accounts was moved to E.On Next after Igloo went burst I was given the bill of £2350.
1 - My ex-husband used to look after all the bills etc. I am recently separated and going through a difficult divorce court case, sending meter readings was the last thing on my to do list, when I already have DD set-up plus was advised by Igloo not to worry about it.
2- I do not have gas central heating, only kitchen/hob use, its bill is minimal, but electricity usage is high (working out about £200 a month), when I moved in the first reading 1st Oct 2020 was 7200 units, and when Igloo went burst (or when I found out) - 9th Oct 2021 readings - 15550 units, is it Ok to have so much electricity usage for a 3 bed mid-terraced house (one bedroom doesn't even have any electrical heating radiator), kids are at school/college and I am at work doing double shifts.
It feels like I have been cheated, already going through difficult divorce proceedings, started working for the first time and doing double shifts to meet end needs, and they E-On are saying I will have to pay this bill.
I am happy to pay on instalments but I will only pay for the past usage on the rate I was with Igloo, even if its on the last (higher) rate, But E-on have used their current rate, and will ONLY charge with that. Have emailed them twice to get a clear answer but they never reply to email but they call me back, Not getting a clear answer from them, I am not sure if they have considered the amount I have paid over the period via DD (about £500).
I don't know what suggestion I am looking for and what I should be doing, I simply can't afford to pay this huge amount being a single mother of 3. I guess I need to understand how I should tackle this? Can I move to another supplier with my account in negative? If I WILL have to pay E-On on their current rates for energy I used in the past being with Igloo?
Happy for any suggestions and apologies for such a long message/query!

Any electricity used up to 3/10/21 should be billed by Igloo at their rates, have you had your final bill from Igloo yet and if so what was the final meter reading used?In general, yes, your usage is high, but not so high as to be unbelievable. You should also check the bills you received from Igloo over the last year to see if they were using estimated or actual meter readings...0

Thank you MWT, yes i have had my final bill and the my account is showing up about £155 in credit, so hope that has been transferred to E-On. looking at the bills they all are on estimates none of the are on actual, having a smart meter I never thought i will have to provide meter readings!0

8500 units in an all electric house is not particular high. At 15p thats about £1400 a year. How much was your DD ? It sounds as though you may well have been underpaying and your supplier has now had an actual reading.
Do you have the old bills ? Look at the readings and the letters A , C or ENever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -

I would say they CANNOT charge you the present rates for electric used over a year ago. E-on can charge their rates from the time they became the SoLR. At the rates my SoLR is charging that's a bill of £1,671.
If you were on a fixed rate with Igloo then they should charge those rates until E-on took over then their rates from whatever day they took on the supply. If you were on the SVR then they would have to use the rates for that times and factor in any increases in SC and kWh charges as they increased or decreased.Someone please tell me what money is1 -
these are the rates and first reading and the last, and this is only for Electricity, there is gas bills too, gas is used in the kitchen only so it is not too high and I OK to pay for that.

Hi,can be that when you switch supplier smart meter doesn't communicate with new supplier, so take meter reading now and give reading, hopefully that should sort out the estimates.Good idea to give a monthly reading in future.1

Sadly some people try to cheat the system in these circumstances by providing a much higher reading than is real, so they can benefit from being charged at the lower rate by the cheap failed provider.I am not suggesting this is the case here, but I can see how it has happened.Do make sure you have photos of the meter reading now, even if you don't have them from October. You can also try to contact Igloo to complain about the low estimated reading, and the administrators may be willing to change the final bill as it would result in them receiving more money.... but the catch is that they will expect to be pad in full straight away, they will not be interested in payments spread over a few months.

It's probably nothing but why is the Actual reading from 18th Oct 2020 07116.1? I thought Actual readings were always whole kWh and only Estimates had decimals?
