I'm not sure I follow your explanation. Below is the page presented when I try to order a new sim. That's long before I actually receive one. Note they ask for mobile number as a required field.0

OPYes I thought it strange they wanted your phone number when ordering.
But nothing strange has happened to my number, no spam etc.0 -
notbritishgas I emailed RWG and their reply said to simply send them my name and address and they would post a sim to me. Thanks for the advice. This seems exactly the sort of deal I was looking for. I'll try to remember to report back here how it went for the benefit of others reading this.1

Update
Received a sim from RWG following an email to them giving just my name and address.
Sim worked first time although I was a little impatient waiting for my activation email as I hadn't even set up my email account on the phone yet!.
I rang RWG on the number given on their letter and it was immediately answered by a real person who said they would get the team to resend the email. New email arrived a minute later and now I am in business. A free sim with 50 minutes or 50 texts and 250Mb of data (which won't matter as I won't deliberately use any data and the phone sits on my desk connected to WiFi in case the phone uses it without me knowing)
Now I can give that mobile number to PayPal and not have to worry about them giving it out to everyone who asks for it
Thanks for the friendly advice here. RWG is the way to go.
(Much better than some of the programming forums I use where the first response to a question is often rudeness and "why don't you look at some of the previous responses before asking here")
