Good evening, frugalers, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
We've only five days remaining of 2022 so make the most of these last few days and, hopefully, you can fit in some time to tweak those budgets. With prices of most things escalating, it's going to be yet another tough year for most. I've managed to book home delivery slots for stocking up on essentials and am still hopeful of getting sugar at an affordable price. There are a few things I really need to focus on for my 2023 challenge if I'm ever to stay within my personal household budget/Things are getting quite complicated while developing the project on a shoestring budget and keeping all the animals fed. My 'to do' list continues to grow but I've invested in a second 100w solar panel to help keep batteries charged for lights, phone charging and laptop at the hut. Our big 2023 goal is to have 2 small cabins built at Frugaldom so that's my incentive for extreme frugal living. One step at a time, it's the only way to get to where you want to be and then keep improving on that. As always, anyone who can get here is welcome to arrange a frugal meet.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

My budget is going to be blown before the new year begins.
The fridge door as just broken on the inside. The insulation/plastic split and the shelves have nothing to attach to. It's still cold but I will need a new one. Can't get a new door because they are no longer making this model.
I have a Duallit food processor. 25 years old and I love it. When I tried to use it on Christmas eve I discovered the socket where the lead plugs into is broken in two and fallen inside the machine. I'm hoping I can find somewhere local to get it repaired. I can not afford to replace it with anything near the same standard or quality.
My work shoes have split on the sole and letting in water.
I need a new sealed unit in my bathroom window, triple glazing so there's another expense.
What a start to 2023.
Hopefully nothing else will go wrong anytime soon.

Mandy. Re yiur food processor might be worth looking around to see if there,s a Repaie Cafe operating anywhere in yiur area. They,re starting to become popular and are run by skilled volunteer tradesmen who want to help, people recycle items rather than purchase new. Check with the Recycling section of your local council as sometimes these are sponsored by the Council.9

Hi @mandy47,
Sorry you have been whammied at the end of the year. 'It doesn't rain and then it pours' could describe the end of my financial year, too! I've just shelled out for my bathroom soil pipe and new cistern, an AA car inspection and second hand car.
I guess getting the work shoes repaired could work out more expensive than buying some newly new in the CS. If they're good quality and you want to get them repaired, then it could be worth it.
I've never tried to repair a fridge door, but I found this website with a how to guide. It says if you cannot find one, you could find a quality second hand replacement. https://authorizedco.com/refrigerator-repair/how-to-replace-an-lg-freezer-door/
There is a website called secondhandfridge.co.uk Can't vouch for it. Would need investigating.
Or, I found this website that sells doors and spare parts, search by brand: https://www.espares.co.uk/search/pt1728/fridges-and-freezers/doors.
Local electrician might have a look at your Duallit. My mum got her reading lamp repaired by a local handyman.
I hope you can find some thrifty solutions.

joedenise said:@mandy47 - might be worth contacting Dualit to see if they are able to carry out a repair for you. They certainly sell spares for their products.
I've been searching online and found a local repair cafe. Doesn't state holiday opening times so I'll wait until new year and try there. I want to make sure it's open because the processor is quite a weight.
Thanks for the idea.8 -

Hopefully I'll be able to get the processor repaired at a repair cafe in my local town centre.
Work shoes are a moulded sole, I have Plantar fasciitis so need really deep shoes so I can put in my special insoles.
Unfortunately the fridge door really is kaput. I will try to find a new door but not having any luck at the moment. The word of the day is obsolete.
I will try the website you suggested. Thanks for your help.
Hopefully you won't have any more issues to worry about forking out for. Things are expensive enough.
