What a lovely thought JackieO, I would certainly treasure a Granny Bea's' book ! May be an idea to put one together as a Christmas present for someone......new stuff could be added every year.. On the lookout for homemade (and home sourced) presents.
Looking at old memoirs etc certainly bring home how fortunate we are with the NHS.
Onward with inventories today, thanks Mumtomany will try and put a stall outside - maybe start with my squashes ! Certainly something to keep in mind when the garden starts to produce ( fingers crossed ) in 2023.
Had a bit of a downer this morning when I realised I'd left animal food off the living cost duh !! Makes it a little bleaker but hey ho the sun is shining and our creativity will have to extend to our livestock....
Have a good day everyone xx
PS intrigued with the Ivy soap, will be a huge help with budget .......Journey on the Frugal Wagon to Self Reliance.

I’ve have on my TBR pile Lady Fanshaw’s Receipt Book, her receipt book was the 1600’s equivalent of Granny Bea’s ‘spell book’ by the sounds of it. I must confess I’ve started one of my own, mostly to save my brain remembering useful household stuff!✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Its a really good idea to write down ideas, tips etc, and wouldnt it be lovely to think of someone referring back to your book when you are long gone!
Busy day. DH has harvested the last of the courgettes and rhubarb. We have a few green beans, aubergines, lots of pears, a few apples, spring onions, spinach, beetroot and some bits and bobs of salad leaves. DH came home on Friday with a gifted carrier bag of potatoes and these will keep us going for quite a while. Will do a mealplan in a bit.
I put the heating on for an hour first thing today but we are being very careful with it. We have lit the fire tonight and the washing that didnt quite dry will go in front of it when we go to bed.11 -
Sweetlittledaydreams said:.... Interesting and one idea that was shared was to use ivy to make laundry wash, basically boil the leaves in water which will release sapin which has a natural 'soapy' quality, then strain and use the liquid in place of liquid detergent ...

Be careful handling ivy as it can be a skin irritant, I personally find cutting it makes me sneeze 😳Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7

And rather a shame to be cutting it now if it has autumn/winter "flowers/berries" on it as these are just about the last foods for bees and other insects7
