  • Thank you, Blue Peter. I have now found postings from many who find the power switch uncertain and awkward. Apparently, a sleep case can be purchased that avoids the use of the switch.
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Ah. That sounds like a good solution for you. I knew that they existed for Kindles, but wasn't aware that Kobo offered them as well. (Possibly in part because I prefer to hold my e-readers directly and don't keep them in covers/cases. I use envelope-type sleeves when I take them out of the house, but the sleeve just gets put on the table while I'm reading.)

@Sterlingtimes You said above that you bought your new e-reader direct from Rakuten, which I assume to mean off the Kobo website. As a matter of interest, can you remember the time it took from order to delivery, please? (Exact dates would be helpful - I appreciate that it'll have been caught up with the Christmas post and, perhaps, with Christmas itself.)

Yes, I can be precise. The contracting party was Rakuten Kobo Inc. Ordered Sunday 19 December 2021, shipping notification Wednesday 22 December 2021. Arrived Thursday 23 December. It was packed in a large box, almost certainly to avoid theft during shipping. Over the years, we have received an empty box for an iPod, an empty box for a mobile 'phone, and a box most recently from Amazon containing a doormat rather than a laptop.

The machine is provided with an on-off switch which is so temperamental that it must be considered as a design defect. Many have reported this on message boards. This is resolved by using a sleep cover which I ordered from eBay for about £6.

    Thank you. That's very helpful.

A friend is thinking of buying a Kobo e-reader. Because she lives out in the sticks, she'd want to have it delivered rather than make a trek to the nearest physical source. One consideration is the speed of delivery. I remembered that you'd bought one direct, so I asked you about it on her behalf. I'll pass your reply on.

The switch issue that afflicts you won't be relevant, since she's thinking of getting a different model.
