Getting rental deposit back what timeline to expect

The LL and Lettings Agents should inform you before then of deductions they want to make from your deposit.
How long did you live in the property ?
Did the LL/LA carry out an Inventory with either photos or Video done which you have seen and signed plus been given a copy ?
Hopefully the LL is very happy that you have moved out so he can sell the property and returns the deposit ASAP.
Please come back to us if you don't receive your Full deposit back by the 24th.
Taking longer than 10 working days to sort the deposit by the LL/LA is looked on badly by the deposit arbitration scheme0 -

If it goes to court, you'll be lucky to get this resolved by Xmas 2022, I'm afraid.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying that as often this forum seems more balanced to those that have than those that don't.
The right thing is to leave a property in the same condition (less fair wear and tear), and allowing the LL reasonable time to check that (during the Xmas period, remember). Even if selling, the LL could have assured the buyer they'll do certain works, make good on damages once vacating the property, or taken a lower value due to the condition. Eg you don't know if the sale price could have been 221k if it was cleaner etc.
Also, anyone can make generalisations.. However I doubt that will be understood and it will be the same old story of another tenant finding every excuse based on the LL's future plans which have nothing to do with them, to get away from paying for their damage.
However all a bit premature at this stage.. just write to the LL asking for your deposit back or a breakdown of damages. If no reply is forthcoming, claim it back from the deposit scheme, to spur them into taking action.1 -
Our contract ended 20th November, a claim for deductions was submitted early December. We have challenged the deductions through the TDS and the deadline for evidence is 20th December.In the meantime the undisputed amount (majority of deposit) was back in our account by 9th December.Sooner you ask for return, I think the sooner you get any uncontested deposit back.
