NS&I and my phone number

I've received an email today from NS&I asking me to check my number is correct as NS&I will soon be switching to a texted 6 digit passcode login system. The email is legitimate, so that's not an issue. What is an issue is whether my number has been entered correctly. I know my number is correct, but the format on my user area is +44 07[rest of my phone number], rather than +447[rest of my phone number]. Would this have implications for the dreaded NS&I security call? I don't want to activate the security call because if I'm wrong, it locks me out of my account as they will try three times and - of course- if my number is entered incorrectly then it's not going to work.

I suggest that you call them. You can call NS&I for free on 08085 007 007 from 7am to 10pm.1

If I log in to my account and look at 'Your details', all my phone numbers are displayed as +44 07[rest of my phone number]. I agree that it seems rather odd, but I suspect it's probably nothing to be concerned about.Stompa1

I had a similar phone issue. every time I login I have a message my phone no is incorrect and needs validating. i have rung them twice and they assure me there is no problem!
Also had no win in 5 years and tried to sell but couldn't due to the phone issue and have won two months in a row! odd or what?0 -
I have played about with this. Both formats, +440number and +44number, are working fine for the security calls. I presume similar will be the case for non-UK numbers.
It would have been useful if they explained what format(s) they allow.1 -
I have my landline registered because their stupid system didn't accept their code from my mobile. I hope texts will work ok on that.0

It'll be fine. The international prefix is only needed when phoning from abroad. Lots of sites will automatically delete the zero and add the +44 for you if you enter it any other way.Use 0, or 44 if phoning from abroad, you don't need both.Quote:How do you call a 44 number from the UK?To call a mobile phone number in the UK from overseas, dial the international exit call prefix (00/+), the UK country code (44), and then the subscriber number without the 0 prefix e.g. 00-44-7XXXXXXXXX or +44-7XXXXXXXXX.0

That is the way NS&I record numbers for their own strange reason but it still works as it should. It ignores any unwanted zero.If you want to check call-back just use the tool in "your profile" to change your number and they'll call you back.If you don't get the call back because the number is wrong for some other reason, then you'll have to go through their system to correct it so you might as well do it now.(Meant to edit my post post and deleted it.)

I know how it works at NS&I as I have already tested it out, in all possible combinations for UK mobile and landlines. This is why I can safely conclude what I posted earlier - i.e. it doesn't matter whether you enter your number with a leading zero or not. It works either way at NS&I.
Notwithstanding that, it would be useful if NS&I actually did tell people. For starters, we wouldn't need this thread...................1 -

It's easy enough to check, they provide a tool to do it, and I don't recall countless posts from people who have been unable to do that. The eccentricity of NS&I is half the fun.0
