Are all the toll booths on the Tyne Tunnel pre pay ? i know when the second new tunnel was built the toll booths were payment or tunnel pass ( i was working on and off on the new tunnel from the start and one of he first to cross it ,even if it was by foot )
I cannot imagine that all transport using the two tunnels have pre paid.0 -
I paid cash back in the summer but it looks like that options been removed.Ganga said:Are all the toll booths on the Tyne Tunnel pre pay ? i know when the second new tunnel was built the toll booths were payment or tunnel pass ( i was working on and off on the new tunnel from the start and one of he first to cross it ,even if it was by foot )

I found it easier to set up an automatic pre-pay account--I know I'm forgetful so I'd rather pre-load an account with £10 for my occasional tunnel journeys, than risk a £30+ fine.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000

You are making excuses. Being a parent hasn't stopped the majority of people paying many various tolls over many years. Its not a ridiculously short amount of time to pay. If you had longer would you have continued parenting and not been able to pay?mpmatthew said:OK it seems that the concept of a parent being busy enough to put off doing something for a day doesn't register with some of you. Suppose I have to accept a certain level of forum-noise to get any help.
To those who tried to answer my questions without blaming me for a very easy mistake to make, thank you!4 -
Last time I was down that way (a few months ago) was the weekend that the tolls changed from cash to pre-pay/pay online after ... one day I used it and paid cash, then next I took a ticket and paid it online when I got home. Online paying took 2 minutes, and that included booting up my laptop.Jenni x0

Ignore the haters, there are always lots of unhelpful comments from people who like to deal out the blame.mpmatthew said:
I tried to pay Monday morning but because I had missed the deadline any payment would have gone towards future journeys. So now all I can do is wait for the fine to come through.jimjames said:Exactly the same with Dartford tolls. Have you made the payment?
It's entirely understandable you had a young child and a lot going on. It's a very short time to pay, for no good reason.2 -
The Dartmouth Crossing will waive the penalty the first time someone forgets to pay. Do the Tyne Tunnels do the same or are they greedy?

It's a shame that they use the pay by midnight on the day after you travel rather than 24 or 48 hours from the time of travel as people with a travel time nearer to midnight have less time to pay
Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Think about it ... 24 hours would be a worse situation than what presently exists.Ms_Chocaholic said:It's a shame that they use the pay by midnight on the day after you travel rather than 24 or 48 hours from the time of travel as people with a travel time nearer to midnight have less time to pay

Think their comment was meant to be about fairness, ie cross at 1am and you get 47 hours to pay but go at 11pm and you get 25 hours to pay... dont think they were saying it should be longer or shorter just that everyone should get the same amount of time @Jenni_DJenni_D said:
