My in house display is broken - EON Next
I had a smart meter fitted in November 2020. In August 2021 the smart meter stopped working and the inhouse display was white fuzz. So I had to provide meter readings, I noticed in November that I received a bill with an actually reading, so I checked the meter is working, but not the inhouse display. I have been chasing EON Next and finally got this message:
"Ahh, I have just seen the picture you sent with the white screen, this looks like to be an actual fault with the machine I agree.

"Ahh, I have just seen the picture you sent with the white screen, this looks like to be an actual fault with the machine I agree.
At the moment we are unable to replace the display as this would require a full meter exchange for both gas and electric as the displays aren't able to be linked with existing smart meters.
You can buy a universal energy monitor from any good electrical store or Amazon or Ebay that are probably better quality than our IHD's and they range from about £15 up to £150 depending on brand/features etc. A universal energy monitor can only show electric usage but will work on any electric meter including classic ones and can easily be installed and set up by yourself."
So before I buy a whole house meter, which will only do electricity, is this correct, that the in house display is tied to the meters and cannot be changed independently?
I have a day and night rate for my electricity, do you have any recommendations of a whole house electricity meter?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,why waste money, just take regular actual meter readings, daily/weekly or at very least monthly and set up a wee spread sheet to allow you to keep an eye on usage and cost. Also, no harm in providing supplier with monthly readings as well.0

If you have a SMETS2 meter then only a DCC Registered User can connect an IHD/CAD to your comms hub. The solution offered by E.oN is unacceptable. Come what may E.oN had an obligation to replace any IHD that fails within 12 months of it being fitted. After 12 months, they may raise a charge for doing so. Fitting a replacement IHD doesn’t mean a comms hub change: I am not sure where the reference to meters comes from.Hildebrand, a Registered DCC User, is able to connect its IHD/CAD remotely so I cannot think of any reason why a supplier cannot do the same. My guess is that the response came from a CS staff member that is not a member of the supplier’s smart team.
Raise a complaint with the resolution being the supply and connection of a serviceable IHD.1 -
I suspect that as usual, the CS staff are passing on about 50% of the real answer.A lot of energy suppliers are having problems keeping the IHD in stock so whatever they have is allocated to new meter installs as a first priority, so saying you can only get a new IHD with a new meter may be factually accurate at the moment, but it doesn't imply that it is not technically possible.0

This is my in house display, has been for the last 6 years. The flip side of it are my gas readings. It's all you need.1

I take daily electric readings and weekly gas readings, the reason for weekly gas readings is because I use so little gas, especially in summer, that in some weeks the number in black don't change for a few weeks, only the red numbers, like when my supplier went under the black numbers staid the same until a few days after the SoLR took over the billing.Someone please tell me what money is0

The OP could install the BRIGHT app on their phone and get their usage history from that.1

These are just a gimmick - throw it away and take readings on the meter itself from time to time.
