I have just got off the line with BG and they want paying again from the time they started supply even though PE have been taking Direct debits for the same time.  The important thing is to cancel the DD with PE immediately.  Hopefully the credit balance will come through to BG eventually and then I can get a refund.  In the meantime I am paying BG again for the energy I have already paid PE for

The first thing I would do when you hear that an SoLR has being chosen for the failed company should be to cancel the DD with the failed company and set up a new one with the SoLR when they allow it to be created. 

There is a gap - in my case 19th Sep to 19 Nov where BG were not supplying.  I suggest not cancelling DD until BG start supplying.  That should balance up what you pay to PE Administrators and BG and leave the balancing amounts 'small'.
