Powerchair - ideas to clean wheels

  • Stripping and sealing floorboards, I would think you might slip and skid if wheels are wet. Better with rubber backed carpet and extra strong carpet glue from fitter. Cushion floor can also be a skid risk.

This has been the bane of my life. It is a seemingly easy but actually very difficult job to do well, without an outdoor place to work with. All wheelchairs need cleaning, yet manufacturers do not build "cleanability" into their products. I did wonder once about setting up a wheelchair cleaning service. I am not sure if it would be profitable though..

Oh gosh yes.. another one of those things they just dont tell us.  My lovely mechanic chap from wheelchair services has been brilliant ut I am being told I am asking for things he hasnt been asked before.. i asked for beep on handcontrol to be turned off.. so i can change position without it beeping and interupting or making me self conscious.. i have a hope to one day go to cinema again.. its been 12 years .. but  a beep each time i recline chair is going to disturb others.

i asked him about cleaning wheels.. he didnt know of anything specifically for job..

    ............

I do find bare stripped boards slippy to walk but fine in wheelchair.  The vinyl is glued down all over and is doing well.. its not as nice when i fall feels colder but far easier to clean and the idea of chair is to stop me falling over so much.

Carpet in lounge was fitted before big wheelchair in house .. but yep its walking, wearing, twisting and not great.. we are saving up... but its not easy to save up , whilst unable to work, on income support because we are seen to not have enough money yet more than our income support is taken to pay towards care contributions for social care.

    ---------------

we settled on having a hose pipe by both doors that doesnt need tap turning on..
long handled dish scrubbing brush by door
    stiff broom
    and then a towel

i have made some shower cap type covers for the bigger wheels but front and back castors are on forks and havent come up with a plan there.. my sewing skills are limited
