****The fact the other vehicle is a taxi with no MOT is irrelevant.****

Except the local authority may take a rather dim view of a *Licenced Taxi* operating without a current local authority test certificate.

Otherwise as has been said **This would appear to be entirely your fault and the claim for damage to both vehicles would fall to you (or your insurer).**

how old is the taxi as it may not need an mot if its under 3 years old
If its an actual taxi, rather than private hire car, then it needs an MOT when its 1 year old not 3

Getting an MOT: MOT costs - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

That's in correct as there's no requirement to MOT a taxi a local authority test replaces the MOT.
My husband was , until recently, a PH driver.  A brand new vehicle needed a local authority test... perhaps not an MOT, but the equivalent.

    Not necessarily

(BTW PH and Hackney are often lumped together)

Some areas use a "Certificate of compliance" instead of an MOT, they dont show up on the MOT checking websites, buses and HGV's can be the same (with VOSA tests)

Presumably you looked at the government website linked to and have given feedback to them that they are incorrect?
I've not no, I sense you're suggesting I'm wrong but then I guess you haven't read this.

    https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/212554/taxi-private-hire-licensing-guide.pdf
I'm not foolish to think that the government's websites are flawless and hence commenting that feedback to correct mistakes is a good idea.

The document you linked to states:

    32. There is considerable variation between local licensing authorities on vehicle testing, including the related question of age limits. The following can be regarded as best practice:

Frequency Of Tests. The legal requirement is that all taxis should be subject to an MOT test or its equivalent once a year

Criteria For Tests. Similarly, for mechanical matters it seems appropriate to apply the same criteria as those for the MOT test to taxis and PHVs

So it would appear that in some areas it is an MOT test and in other areas its not officially an MOT test but a test based on the same criteria as an MOT if they are following the best practice.
So you agree your initial post was incorrect?
Take a "Bow" "Fer" being correct, at least partially.
