Hi all, our new build will finally be ready and we will complete on 28th January, (exchanged in May) we are moving from rented so no chain at all.
I am starting to think about what we need to do, book, sort, redirect etc and also thinking of moving weekend.
we have a moving company booked but we are packing, the plan is to keep our rented for a 2 week cross over so, Friday we will hire a small van and move the stuff they cant (and my other halves precious tech) over the weekend and then the removals will do all the furniture on the Monday.
Never bought a new build, I was in my last house for almost 20 years and then we've been in rented for 2 years so all new to me.
I have started a survival list thanks to a thread yesterday but looking to the wealth of knowledge that is this forum - what are your top tips? do's, don'ts things you wish somebody had told you??

Clearly label all boxes, ie where it is to go, what is in it, so bedroom 2 towels,Get some decent brown tape, boxes, bubble wrap.Large marker penHave handy items such as kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, spoons, toilet rolls, etc.Make a list of all you need to tell you are moving, ie council, banks, gas/ elect, loyalty cards, BT, vets, doctors, pensions, any clubs you belong to, and professional bodies you belong to / etc etcMake up your bed asap, you will need it by the time you get to 11pm or what ever, the last thing you want to be doing is hunting for sheets / pillows etc, I went as far has having duvet etc in my car, I have the movers put out bed out of the lorry first.Make sure you and partner are on the same 'page' as to where everything is going to, the movers will ask, and won't hang about, if you are not sure they may put the item in the nearest place.Get something in your mind to eat, sandwiches, microwave meals, have cutlery / plates etcBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

De clutter, then de clutter some more.
Then do a serious de clutter.16 -
excellent! we have boxes and tape leftover from our move to rented and have started packing stuff, good call on the duvets etc, will add that to my moving day emergency box. we have started labelling boxes, a lot of furniture isn't built (we thought we were moving 2 weeks ago so had ordered furniture which is now scattered around my rental lol)kazwookie said:Clearly label all boxes, ie where it is to go, what is in it, so bedroom 2 towels,Get some decent brown tape, boxes, bubble wrap.Large marker penHave handy items such as kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, spoons, toilet rolls, etc.Make a list of all you need to tell you are moving, ie council, banks, gas/ elect, loyalty cards, BT, vets, doctors, pensions, any clubs you belong to, and professional bodies you belong to / etc etcMake up your bed asap, you will need it by the time you get to 11pm or what ever, the last thing you want to be doing is hunting for sheets / pillows etc, I went as far has having duvet etc in my car, I have the movers put out bed out of the lorry first.Make sure you and partner are on the same 'page' as to where everything is going to, the movers will ask, and won't hang about, if you are not sure they may put the item in the nearest place.Get something in your mind to eat, sandwiches, microwave meals, have cutlery / plates etc0 -
There will still be a lot to do to the house, new does not mean perfect and ready.Unless you've had extra storage you will have boxes everywhere for a bit.If you have multiple bathrooms, they may not all be equal, it may take a few days to find the best one to use until other issues are sorted.May you find your sister soon Helli.

Make your bed first. Also keep things like toilet paper, soap and a hand towel ready to put into the bathroom straightaway. I removalist recently wanted to use the toilet in the place I was moving from and asked to use the bathroom. I said yes and that he would need to take the soap back in. He said it was alright because it was just a wee. I strongly disagreed. As it is a new build you will want to check the place over and do a snagging list when you get the keys.3
