Semi-detached house - neighbours roof storm damaged - should I pay?

Options
Hi,
I live in a semidetached house and my neighbours roof was damaged in the recent storm.  The damage isn't huge but it is totally on their side of the roof (above their gable end).  Do I have any responsibility to pay for part of the repairs please?  Or is the ownership for cost with them because it does not impact my house at all?
Cheers!

If it's the roof above their house, it's their problem. Are they suggesting you should chip in for repairs?

yeah, I'm assuming theyre heading that way because theyve given us a copy of the quote! Cheers, I started to panic that I was totally out of touch with the ownership!

If you replaced your roof would they pay for half even if it stopped in a straight line along the property boundary?
Strange thought paying for some else's roof. It's not a leasehold flat with obligations ... is it?

No you don't have to pay. There is no legal obligation. I've never heard of such a thing and I lived in a semi for 40yrs.
Did they put the quote through the door or hand it to you?
Are you sure they did or was it misdirected by the roofer/postman?
Even so it should be 3 quotes.
If they just put it through the door then I'd be inclined to write a polite note saying 'kind of them to show you but it has absoloutely nothing to do with you and you're a bit embarrassed to see their private financial dealings'

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

cheers - I was sure that was the case but I really started to doubt myself! :)  Will definitely have a chat tomorrow now that I've had the reassurance here...hoping they were just mistaken on the ownership or they were looking for some advice on the cost.  They did hand it to me but I actually thought it was a christmas card! nice surprise to open that!

The damage is on the opposite end of the roof from your house? I could understand if it was above the party wall 😀

If the quote came through the door without any comment or explanation , then I would probably respond in kind and ignore it!
  • Sounds a bit like your neighbour's are trying it on I think.

What do your title deeds say about common repairs?
Around 1/4 of our roof is over our neighbours property but in our title deeds we share responsibility for the roof repairs so when we got work done to our whole roof they had to pay half.

You don't have any liability regarding damage to their roof, or cost of repairs - unless there is anything in the deeds to the contrary.
