Using old DVD recorder with digital tech

an old dvd recorder takes analogue inputs and converts them to digital to write a dvd.SiliconChip said:How can a DVD recorder be analogue? Surely there's a big clue in the full name of DVD, Digital Versatile (or Video) Disc.
you need an analogue signal from the sky box to feed them - connections are often scart, s-video or composite (rgb phono)1 -
Regarding the HDCP copy protection, it was broken a decade ago and devices to ignore it are easily obtained.

I bought a HDMI splitter for about £13 many years ago that defeats the HDCP copy protection and allows me, in conjunction with a Hauppauge HD PVR2 unit, to make HD recordings from my Sky+.
I only use it for private use to make HD recordings of music and opera programmes that I can replay on my media player through my Hi-Fi system.
I do it mainly so that I still have the recordings even if my Sky+ box fails or I end my Sky subscription. I also do it when I only want to keep part of a long programme. For example a one hour Jules Holland programme may only have 5 minutes of the one act I am interested in.
I delete the original recordings and free up space on my Sky+ box. Even though I have upgraded that to 2tb it still gets quite full.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".1
