How to find a tablet that lasts more than 3 years!

Steering back towards OP's actual question...
there are some Android phones that offer 3+ year O/S support including Google's Pixel range, select Samsung Galaxy phones, OnePlus and Fairphone.
From this list, only Samsung is offering a tablet but you'll need to check where your prospective model is on the end of life timeline at the point of purchase, https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-android-updates-1148888/
You will have to pay a premium for a good spec device though.0 -
SCCM support for MacOS is not the same a being able to craft your own customised image for installSandtree said:
Little beyond my technical knowledge but I believe so and a quick google gives various instructions on how to do so, even Microsoft SCCM supports MacOS these days and the likes of Parallels have created plugins for it to further enhance the MacOS supportunforeseen said:There are other reasons for rebuilds, most notably on change of user, especially now with GDPR.
Had many work machines "rebuilt", so new image installed and equivalent to a fresh install and its been 50/50 if its actually fixed the issue or if they go on and replace instead.
Do Apple have such thing as a Enterprise licencing system and allow for customised images to be created by IT departments so that all machines have the same base set up?
Given the previous criticism of not comparing apples and apples (pun not really intended)... do you think the load of running a NAS is equivalent to a computer being used as a main day to day computer for graphical design or rendering video etc?debitcardmayhem said:
for @Sandtree we have a 10+yr old G630 running a NAS which makes his 3+ a bit more if switched to Linux , shame on the fellow when I take it down it will run W10 fine.0 -
Which as I say I understand you can do but have never had a piece of work that involved doing it so cannot say I've first hand experience of it @unforeseen - my only times involved in that sort of thing was in new service departments who all had basic desktops and certainly not Macs... I've managed to avoid any EUC/M365/OS upgrade type projects in my careerunforeseen said:

Sorry, but haven't viewed all posts yet , but I may as well give my experiences and possible opinion ..
Regarding the Apple vs Android . I would say that if you have everything else Apple then the iPad is the way to go . If not, then I'll give more of my view later..
All I can say about my own preferences is that I don't have anything other than Apple Products . The most annoying and deliberate thing with an Apple product and their condescending attitude at the time is ..The Ipad 2! For me it was the thing that became unworkable due to too many updates ! The battery is OK still, but I very rarely use it.
The iPhone 4 and 5 had the battery issues which had many of us ranting about .
I am typing this on my iPad mini 4 which is 5 years and two weeks old . Purchased on Black Friday at that time . To me, 🤞it is the best apple product so far in the fact that it is still up to date . So unbelievably , I actually have an apple product that seems to care for he consumer. The iPhone se had to be replaced a few months ago due to battery life and realisation that it wouldn't be able to handle updates in 2 yeas or so.
Regardng other tablets . It depends on what you actually want to use it for , and how often
Other brands don't cost much as iPads and it may work out cheaper to get a cheap, one off of Qvc etc and jus renew as and when . Should get at least 2 years out of them anyway0
