As many expected rules will be tightened from 4am Tuesday.
“Travellers heading to the UK will now have to have a Covid test before their departure in effort to limit spread of the virus, government has announced.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said the tightened requirements would come into force from 04:00 on Tuesday.
Travellers will be required to submit evidence of a negative lateral flow or PCR test to enter.”

Nothing on gov.uk yet.

This is a move I welcome to protect the UK though.
Edit: Now updated.💙💛 💔1 -
Is ROI included? Otherwise you need a test to go say, Stansted to Dublin, but not Dublin to Stansted.0

Well, I think that puts and end to any thoughts I had of a few days away over the holiday week. Too much risk of testing positive while away and not being able to get back for work. Just pleased I was able to get 2 holidays in while things were relatively normal.1

From what I've seen so far, it appears that it can either be a lateral flow or PCR test - so I imagine that many will go for the cheaper lateral flow tests. I can't see it saying that the results need to be from an accredited laboratory and as I do a lat flow twice weekly for work, I wonder if using that will be sufficient.
As it stands, I'm travelling 10th - 18th Dec. Day 2 PCR kit already purchased, however....
...the fact that I can be on a 10 hour flight with +200 people, potentially return from airport by public transport, take the test within 1 hour of being home and have results 24 hours later seems crazy. Surely, I am more likely to get something on the flight and therefore get a positive result some 3-5 days later.
I have no issues in taking the tests according to the requirements even though I'm left scratching my head!MFW 2021#79

My 18 year old and her friend have booked and paid for 7 days in Tenerife thru Jet2 hols.
They don't want to go now incase 1 or both get stuck there, due to return 20th Dec so would miss Xmas.
They have travel ins and was booked using credit card.
Does anyone think they will get any of their hard earned money back? Even a voucher would be great.

Travel Insurance - unlikely but they will need to check their policies / contact the companies
Credit Card - not relevant as holiday still going
Probably best looking to pay to change dates if they do not want to travel and not lose everything paid2 -

Why don't they "Cut out the middleman" and just insist you have a PCR Test before coming back hence negating the need for a LF before travelling and another PCR one virtually when you get here.
At least this would simplify the process and involve only one test.0 -
