I had to have words with EoN to get my tariff changed to DD rates even though I'd set up a DD several weeks ago - I was put on their most expensive "pay on receipt" as a default so you might need to give them a prod.

It might be worth most people having a shufti to check whether their rate corresponds with their method of payment rather than just hoping that EoN will sort it out properly

Haven't they said they are doing a run today which will update everyone to the correct rate if they have a DD set up?

I sent them an e-mail on Tuesday and they had corrected it and got back to me within 3 hours and then I saw the post you mention which gave a screenshot from ,I believe, a social media post  a FB messenger conversation.
    Found it

Is EON and EON Next the same thing?

I've just had an email from them today asking me if I would like a refund as they've just taken the next payment and now I'm over £200 in credit.

It also said that I'm on their variable tariff @ 19.80p/kWh (plus 19.10p/day) electric and 3.9p/kWh (plus 19.31p/day) gas so I'm assuming this is the DD version as it appears cheaper than the on receipt prices quoted in this thread.

I cannot understand why they just cannot say your electricity and gas will be Xp / kilowatt per hour in X part of the country.
That surprised me too.  It's because the cap is NOT defined as a per kWh rate.  It's defined as two caps for someone using 0kWh and another cap for someone using the average kWh.  And that gives the suppliers some flexibility.

I only found this out when I compared my gas from Outfox The Market to a price-cap calculator and found I was paying more.  Calculators tend to assume two things:
    1. The p/day standing charge is Ofgem's 0kWh price cap divided by 365.
    2. The p/kWh is the ([average use cap] - [0kWh cap]) / [average kWh usage]
What Outfox do is have a standing charge below (1) and a p/kWh rate above (2).  For average use the end result is bang on Ofgems cap.  I use slightly more than the average so I pay slightly more than the calculators assume.  And someone using less than average will be charged less than what the calculators assume.
