Lpg switch to bottles

Hi, just after some help really. We have an underground LPG tank, which unfortunately can only be filled by accessing neighbours land, yes we have the legal rights to access land but he will lock gates and put a digger in front so we can’t access. Down to not much left now and it’s stressful. Yes he is vile and we could go down the legal route but thinking of switching to bottles he would loose control then. We use very little LPG works out about 600litres a year. We have a log burner so only use it for cooking and hot water. Are there any clever people who can work out how many bottles we would get through on a 12months basis and the cost at the present extortionate cost. We got a brand new LPG boiler 5 years ago so not keen to switch again! Thank you

A 47kg bottle holds 92 litres of LPG.
Assuming you need 6 bottles a year, that would be £390 at £65 a bottle.
I don't know what you pay for LPG, but assuming 35ppl, 600 litres would cost £210.1 -
I don't know the answer but would it be cheaper to heat the water using off peak electricity?

Sounds like the neighbour from hell
Why do some people think they can ignore the law?
But if you have formal rights to access, then I would take legal action. If you give in and move to bottled, then not only will it cost more, but you may compromise your legal position. And also think about the future value of your property if you ever decide to move.2 -
Thanks all for your advice, I think we may take legal action, I can’t see a judge looking kindly on him freezing a family out! Bottles will be the last resort but not as expensive as I thought, Thanks all 🙂1

As a buyer I immediately discounted properties dependant on bottled LPG. Did not even go and view. If others have the same attitude, the price if/when you sell will be be seriously impacted. So long term, you really need to get your rights confirmed and enforced. Is the neigbour likely to sell shortly? How old is he? If this is a short term issue with the prospect of a new neigbour sometime, then fine, find a short term solution, but otherwise.....How strong is your legal case? What is the basis of your right of access? If it is clear cut, then go for it. If it is open to challenge or ,you might want to think twice.

We have decided to take some legal advice, we do have an easement over his land for delivery so should be clear he can’t lock us out… will wait and see what solicitors say… but we need a long term solution, we can’t involve solicitors every time we want some LPG, thanks all 😊1
