we obtained a repair for a dishwasher whilst the item was just within warranty, that company has now been out three times and the product is now out of warranty. The original fault they have been unable to fix (the item develops the same fault a few days after the repair. We are now told that the item is out of warranty so nothing can be done.
I think a repair should last more than a few days

Yes it should.
The usual questions please, who did you buy it from, how long ago and how did you pay?0 -
repair organised by DBE? (Electrolux) purchased just over 2 years ago but fault developed a few days before end of guarantee. Original fault has been 'repaired x3, but now 2 months later still has same fault - we are unable to use dishwasher
last repair was5 days ago and it lasted less than 24 hours
we are being passed around, Electrolux says its out of warranty and repair outside of warranty were done as a gesture of goodwill. I think that as the fault developed within the guarantee period and they are unable to repair (they won't admit that bit) we should have a new model0 -
they have said any other visit by an engineer is chargeable as the appliance is out of warranty0

There are two issues here, the manufacturer's warranty (presumably Electrolux) and separately your rights in law.
Who did you actually buy it from and how did you pay for it?
Edited to add: when did the fault first appear? was the machine more than 6 months old then?0 -
fault appeared a few days before warranty was up. Now the warranty is up and the fault is exactly the same as before obviously machine is just over 2 years old.0

The warranty is whatever they say it is (so long as it does not infringe your statutory rights). As they are saying it is now expired it may not be worth chasing any further.
Quite separately you do have statutory rights against the company who actually sold it to you and if you paid by credit card you might have further rights as well.
My Electrolux dishwasher (still going strong!) was already installed in my new house so if I wanted to make a claim it would be against the builder.
Did you acquire yours through a house purchase? Did you get it from a retailer such as the Co-op? Was it you or someone else who actually paid?
Tell us these and we might be able to help.0 -
so if a fault develops whist under warranty and it cannot be repaired thats tough? Is that what you are saying?0
-
