Bus lane fine, Marstons debt collectors demanding £400 by midday

Hi there,
my step mum who I was living with 8 years ago contacted me today and said a guy from Marstons had contacted her regarding a bus Lane fine for myself dated back to July 2021.
So I called the number he had left her and I was told that because my address details for my car had not been updated on my V5 logbook the initial £100 has now racked up to £405, which is a criminal offence. (He even called me a criminal) I told him I had not even seen the initial fine, and he got all sarcastic and said that it was my fault because I had not updated my logbook address details.
he didn’t want to hear any of my questions I was asking, I was just told I had to pay £405 by midday or else my car was going to be out on live ANPR and if my car is spotted anywhere I will have my car taken off me, there will also be debt collectors going to my new address to collect assets up to that amount. And it would also increase to £550.

I obviously want to appeal this, my car tax and driving licence both have had my new address in for the past 2 years, Do you think I have a leg to stand on to appeal against the added fee costs? I am happy to pay the initial bus Lane fine if £100, but I feel that £400 is a bit snakey..

As bailiffs now seem to be involved, as well as posting on PePiPoo as suggested by @D_P_Dance, you will be helped in dealing with bailiffs/enforcement agents by making contact with 'Bailiff Advice Online'. Sheila, who provides this service, has an extremely good reputation for assisting people with bailiff issues.Calls and the email enquiry service are free. Here's your link:Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. Like a bailiff has the power to tap into council ANPR to find your car...
Probably a wannabe cop who failed his exams and has now been watching too much 'celebrity hunted' on catch up TV. The tool.
Deep breath. Then get advice.3 -

I was just told I had to pay £405 by midday or else my car was going to be out on live ANPR and if my car is spotted anywhere I will have my car taken off me,Did you pay? Hope not. You need to ask pepipoo how to reset the case if you can at this stage, on the basis you were not served with any PCN. A bus lane fine is not a criminal offence. He lied (quelle surprise).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

@Coupon-mad I did pay, because I live at home and didn’t want bailiffs turning up to my new address and taking assets, nor did I want my car taken off me. So I thought best thing to do was pay (as I was given only half an hour before it was taken further with ANPR & more charges) and the appeal after…
no sorry, the bus lane fine is not a criminal offence, he was meaning not keeping my V5 up to date is0 -
Ignore the stuff about ANPR, they are talking out of their own backsides. However if they do see your car on the street they can likely clamp it pending you coughing up, but this can only be done by high court bailiffs. They wont be using ANPR to do this though.
I would suggest not leaving it directly outside you house.1 -
ANPR is not all it is cracked up to be. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WEAR, read this
