Using credit cards abroad
- No fees on spending or ATM withdrawals overseas
- No interest on cash withdrawals if paid IN FULL
- 22.9% rep APR
Barclaycard Rewards website states:
If you buy something with your card while you're abroad, you'll pay one single, non-sterling purchase fee of 2.99%, every time you use it. If you withdraw foreign currency using your card, you will just be charged a transaction fee of 2.99% (minimum fee of £2.99).
I am having trouble understanding this; please can someone explain?

Can you link to where you have found both bits of info please? Its possible it could be two totally different cards, or one of the sources is now wrong.0

Barclay's own website is clearly the one to trust, MSE will only update when they become aware that Barclay's have changed their product.Swali said:For Barclaycard Rewards credit card, MSE website states:

In this case, MSE is right and wherever OP read the above text is wrong, or at least not applicable to this particular card - the summary box at https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/credit-cards/barclaycard-rewards is clear:Sandtree said:

But it's "right" because it matches what Barclay's own website says... if you saw Barclay's website was different then I'm sure you'd say trust theirs not MSE.eskbanker said:

Your link is clearly for new customers applying, I wonder if there are older cards out there with different terms? I know when barclays pulled a number of features existing customers got to keep them for a while longer. The OP clearly needs to clarify where they saw the information they posted on Barclay's website0 -
OP is quote the Barclaycard terms not the reward account, the page he's referring to is hereSandtree said:

I suspect there is some confusion on the OP's part about the card terms in general overriding the Rewards card0 -
Yes, provider content should always be relied on over third party paraphrasing, but I was just answering your apparent implication that the quoted Barclays text was applicable and that MSE would eventually be correcting theirs to catch up, whereas in this case the MSE wording that OP read is actually more accurate than the text they found at Barclays!Sandtree said:

Does the Rewards card have its own dedicated app, or are you looking at info on the Barclaycard app that applies to their cards in general..?

I used mine to apply for an US ESTA last month and there was no FX/Conversation charge.0

It's easy to understand the OP's confusion about Barclaycard's foreign transaction fees:I recently received the following documents with a new Rewards Card:
- A glossy flyer that mentions a 2.99%, minimum £2.99, fee for foreign transactions, but also says the fee might not apply if Barclaycard has offered a lower promotional fee.
- A booklet titled "Terms and Conditions - Continued". Strangely it starts from paragraph 5. Para 13 refers to a non-sterling transaction fee.
- Paragraphs 1 to 4 are on the back of the letter to which the new card was attached. Here you'll find the 0% transaction fee detailed.
Barclays could make it so much easier by producing a set of terms specific to the reward account only.1
