Morning yesterday
Yes we have water again this morning!
I have an unexpected day off today as a decision was made yesterday afternoon to be closed in case there was still no water. Also to allow the damage in the school fields to be assessed - there are several trees down.
So I've had a nice lie in after staying up far too late watching TV and plan to go into town to buy Christmas cards and some presents. And then wrap some more this afternoon.
Will have to phone housing association too - the contractors saw the blown over fences on Saturday but I need to report that the fence knocked over the shed, blew off the shed doors and the roof felt...and managed to knock over a metal washing pole...
Just thankful my roof is ok - several of the houses on the estate have big chunks missing.
So I'll wish you all a good day and get started
Take care everyone x14 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Thoughts are still with Dumplings family, they must be devastated.
Photos gers??
Yesterday, cold, then snow, then the snow stopped, then it started again, we have not had anymore overnight but it has frozen. Not sure what the roads are like, cleaner is due if the road is clear.
I ordered a smaller table for the kitchen on Saturday, it has been delivered this morning. Just have to wait for DGS to come and put it together. I have the big one on gumtree, it it has not sold in a couple of weeks it will go to the charity that supplies furniture to people on a low income.
The bed is stripped, I have to wrestle the mattress off and see if we can shift it, we need to turn it round and push it onto the side wall.
I have soup mix soaking to make scotch broth with last nights left overs, hopefully for lunch.
Not sure about supper tonight, will sort something out, maybe sausage.11 -
Morning campers
-3 this morning with a layer of snow that’s frozen. Was going to venture out to get rid of some stuff in the bin but that’s on hold as a fall would be pretty serious for me. Lovely shower this morning which I really could have stayed in all day
Good day yesterday and got quite a bit done so feeling pleased with that and the fish and chips went down very well too
Today I am back on the Stroke Association support calls with 2 new contacts to pick up. This afternoon I’ll finish off a few things in the kitchen
Dinner depends on tiredness levels but may well be some Heinz tomato soup and baguette. Keep seeing the ads and now have a craving. I hate tomatoes they are devils food to me but I adore the soup (only Heinz though)
Hope everyone has recovered from the storm and that DP1 has water and maybe found the flying pink sandpit
Stay safe and warm everyone

Morning all...Another bloody cold day but we have ticked Ghostbusters off the cinema list. The cinema was so busy, not really, it was us two, three people to the right in front of us and four people to the left in front of us. Before I booked the tickets I went through all the times the film was on to see how many seats were taken and avoided the times with more. Still no car part, so I'm going to find out exactly what it is and try and get it myself, I found a genuine supplier on ebay so when he tells me what it is I should be able to see if they have it...I have to get to the hospital on Wednesday morning early for a bone density scan, to see if there are going to be problems and again in a couple of weeks time, being without it has not been a major hassle yet [apart from the build up of stuff waiting to go to the tip...] but it's very limiting for getting about. So I'm all for self driving cars in the future when I'll be too decrepit to manually drive.I'm going to finish the chest of drawers off today so I can get them out of the living room and then make some more headway with tidyness upstairs and I've come up with a plan for the garage door. I'm just going to swap the hinges around, let the door stay flat on the ground when I mark the hinges out, then cut off or raise the metal bit at the bottom by an inch or so, swap the bolt to the other side, screw on a half moon shaped handle and it should be good to go. That's tomorrows job. And probably Wednesday afternoons job. But I get to play with my multi tool which is going to be a lot easier [ I hope!] than a hammer and chisel.I hope those without power manage OK, crazy crazy weather. TA, your comment about eye watering pirce smade me laugh, that's what I always think when I go to a Dobbies..Looks lovely, but too dear...Gers, how does the advent calendar thing work? Do you leave it burning? Or snuff it out for the next week after a bit? Ruby, hope you do alright today..Izzy, enjoy York! I was looking at short trips with a localcompany there for the Christmas Market, but I may have to forgo that until next year. Take care of yourselves today, I send roaring fires and marshamllows..Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Gers, how does the advent calendar thing work? Do you leave it burning?
It's an advent crown / wreath - round with four holes for candles. One is lit on the first advent Sunday, blown out after a wee while, two lit on the second advent Sunday and so on until all four are lit on the fourth advent Sunday which is then Christmas. This year the fourth advent Sunday is on 20 December.Outside is very grey and drizzly, I ventured out to bring in more logs even though I haven't got the wood burner going yet as I'm wrapped in my electric throw. I've cancelled my dental hygienist appointment for tomorrow as I don't really want to be travelling down to Glasgow this week. The next one is not until February though I'm on the cancellation list.
There's papers to scan and then burn and my contents insurance to renew. I may well watch Dr Who again
just to make sure I understand it.

Hi everyone,
dp1, that sounds very scary. Gers and Nelski, we were just talking about the Blue Peter advent crown yesterday, it wouldn't be allowed nowadays with elf and safety.
Just a quick one from me before we dash down to the smoke, I needed a sit down after shopping this morning and then making a French dip to go with beef baguettes (I made the beef yesterday and we had it for dinner) and also a bean stew so that we don't have to do much cooking in the next couple of days.
Apparently Esben has another cold (par for the course having just moved up in the nursery) so, to my relief he won't be going to forest school tomorrow, far too cold. I was girding my loins to go with him but not really looking forward to it.
Have a good day.12 -
I was going to say about the Blue Peter Advent crown too !,10

I had a very busy time batch cooking this morning, followed by sorting out the freezers in the garage and making out a new inventory. (I don't know where I found the sudden burst of energy!) Then collapsed with my lunch and now aiming to spend, spend, spend on the internet! I WILL make headway on the gift shopping this afternoon! I have made a start already by ordering a restaurant gift card to accompany the Italian hamper and Panettone which are DS and his DP's joint pressies. Along with the few stocking filler already bought they are now sorted at last!
It wasn't until after my post earlier that I learned of the dramas unfolding last night for DD and 2 of the DGDs. A good job I didn't know last night or I wouldn't have got to sleep! Eldest DGD was on a late shift at the club in town where she has a part time job, oblivious to what the weather was like outside! She couldn't get up home and had to spend the night with her step gran who lives a walkable distance from the club.
DD and middle DGD were at Northern Ballet for her Renaissance tuition with no idea what the weather was like here. They got a train from Leeds no problem and alighted to a different world with the road up here impassable. They had no choice but sit it out in a small pub in town until our road up had been cleared. Finally the snow plough came up and they were then able to book a taxi! Her phone had died amid the drama and she couldn't let her lovely chap and youngest DGD know they were safe. He was worried sick and I was here totally oblivious thank goodness!!
Right, back to gift searching! x
