Kindle help please

So it seems that my trusty Kindle version 2? With keyboard has finally given up 😢. A few days ago the screen went blank and I was unable to change it.  After a google search I found that if I gave it numerous small charges it might eventually come back to life which it did for a few hours but then died again. I managed to download all of my books to my laptop “jus in case” but now it won’t charge at all and I am going to have to replace it

i would really like some advice please on the best version to replace it with because since I bought mine there are a lot of different ones to choose from and it seems that some have adverts on which seems kind of annoying!!

i only need WiFi and would still like to store my books in folders under the authors name.  It doesn’t really need to “do” anything else I don’t think

I’ve read the reviews on the basic paper white and they say it is a bit glitchy when turning the pages so I’m wondering if I need to upgrade - this is then when I start to get a bit confused with what I need\want so would appreciate some help and advice.

i would also appreciate some advice that if I order from amazon will all of my previously ordered books be downloaded on to my new kindle.

sorry for the long post but I really want to make sure that whatever I buy I can get as much use out of as my last one.  Many thanks from any help, info or advice that anyone might be able to give me 😄 xx

  • I have a paperwhite that is about 5 years old, I can’t yet recommend a new one, but I would recommend you look at calibre as a book manager for your pc and whichever ereader you decide on.

I'm on my second Paperwhite.  The original is years old and was at the point of needing to be recharged a couple of times a day.  I've had the new one a couple of years now with no problems.  I'm not sure what you mean by downloading the PC 'just in case'.  As long as you are still using the same e-mail address you can access them on any device with the Kindle Apps.

When you buy a kindle book you own it forever - On my third and can access them all. You can via your Amazon account view ALL the books you have purchased so just enter the title into the search and it will tell you that you purchased it on X date and you can then download it. Browsing for books if you try to buy one you already own then it will tell you and again you can download it - with around 3,000 books I sometimes try to buy it again so it is handy. If you search for  **Amazon Kindle Forum** there is a forum where you can get lots of help and advicde advice - Youngest son bought me mine and it is one of the best pressies ever.

  • Thanks for your replies. I might just go with the paper white.

Telllt01 I downloaded all my books to my laptop in case they didn’t transfer on to anything new I bought - thanks for confirming that they will xx

yes as long as you use a kindle or a kindle app on a pc/tablet,(which defeats the portability/battery life due to e-ink). If you buy say a kobo then you "may" be a little restricted.

  • Thanks for the info debitcardmayhem. I will be sticking with a kindle just deciding on the actual model. Think I’ll see if there’s any good deals tomorrow on cyber Monday 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 Xx

I use the kindle app on my iPad, but it’s much heavier and less ergonomic than a dedicated kindle reader.

I keep thinking that maybe I will treat myself to another kindle. My first one just died during the night. I think that all of the current ones have some sort of lighting built in?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

One thing to be aware of with the Paperwhite is that any photos within a book are shown in black and white only.  Sorry if that's obvious.

This has just (3 weeks ago) happened to me, I tried everything you have and gave up in the end. You can trade in your old kindle I got £5 and got a new one the same size as the old one but it has adverts on it, they are not too bad only about 5 seconds when you first switch on, as others have said all your books are on your account and can be downloaded. I had mine up and running within an hour or so, most of that time was downloading.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!
