I am not into sewing, as I'm not very good at it! 😆

But I am a crafter and I have signed up to Elephant in my Handbag newsletter, they have some lovely fabrics, lots of different types. They often have special discounts or competitions.
I am also a subscriber to the Weaver Dee newsletter, they look very good for pricing and some lovely designs.

Please remember to check the Angel policies if you are looking to sell, as a lot of people sell protected designs (Disney, Marvel etc.) which can get you into a lot of trouble if they find out. Just because you can buy lots of fabrics in certain designs, some people assume they can use it and sell.

CraftWorld is a good website for crafters, you can share your work, look for inspiration, free designs, competitions and even join in with the forum, so it might be worth a look if you aren't already a member (free to join and use)
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.
  • Have a look at The Sewing Place forum as there are lists for both on-line and bricks & mortar suppliers.

    Happy New Year to all.
Seeing this by chance, may I add Stitch fabrics, who do indeed send out their wonderful cut-price Italian fabrics, glorious textiles - off the bolt, panels, remnants, everything.  They absolutely know their stuff too, established through 3 generations now.

But best of all is to treat yourself to a no-pressure visit to whichever village hall or local space they are booked into.😀

Here in East Anglia, their visits to Trumpington village hall are eagerly awaited and the family recognise and welcome everyone as they arrive.  Many return in groups, wearing what they've made up from previous purchases.

Regular new stock/latest reductions emails go out too, with a diary of forthcoming dates+places.

I promise I have no business connection to them at all, but love going......and Shhh!....picking up a few more pieces.😁
Look up Stitch, family name Rosenberg, based in East London.

    Wow, thank you!

I've realised I now need to figure out how different materials feel, as I'm quite fussy about whether I like the feel of something. Am I likely to be able to tell from the description?

  • You can‘t always tell from the descriptions and listings - some sellers are vague, and others may list every little detail but still leave you scratching your head (eg, cotton poplin, quilting cotton, cotton sateen and cotton lawn all have different uses and textures

You may be better finding places that will allow you to buy samples (eg Abakan allows it online and so do a few others, flamingo used to include them in all orders but no idea if that’s still standard for them)

If you get a fabric and think “eww wouldn’t wear that!” It’s not truly wasted so long as you use it - so it can always be linings in bags, or the rough version you quickly stitch to try a pattern before you cut your good fabric etc
