Could of course buy an ExternalHard Drive and put your photos on there that way you can free up space whilst having easy access. You can buy a 1tb for under £40 - cheaper than a new laptop/desktop and you would have a hard time filling that up.

I have a hard drive with ALL my photos/videos pluas folders of old files I need to keep and am not half way to full.

OP already has a second SSD (if I remember right) with 175GB of free space - I don't think the storage location for the media has been discussed/confirmed. i.e. we don't know if it is the media storage that is causing the only 8GB free space on the main SSD issue - if it is then of course the media could be moved to the second SSD.

You're right though that the media should be backed up to an external HDD anyway - if an SSD fails it tends to go Bang, whereas an HDD failure is often more gradual thus giving a chance to recover media before it goes bang.

I have an External HD, which I bought recently but not used yet. I will do that tomorrow, thanks.

The SSD with 175GB free is in my Laptop. I will transfer the media over to my recently bought External HD tomorrow. Thanks.

Good move. Do be sure to have copies in at least two and better three devices. So copy to external, copy from external to laptop then once you're certain it's all in those two place you can delete some from the desktop.

It's also possible to adjust Windows settings on desktop and laptop so you can browse and copy files back and forth between them using Windows explorer and network sharing. You can even store the files on one and do the processing on the other. Something for later, perhaps, since the external drive will do for a quick move with no hassle for now.

On the at least subject, it's worth looking into Mega.io and other network disk storage places. They make it quite easy to copy things to a network drive at no cost and they are largely safe from a fire or flood destroying your home and its computers. Something like Mega can also be accessed from a phone and that phone is how you ensure you have the software keys needed to get in if you do lose everything at home. Something else that can wait for the to do list. As well as that remote security it gives you more safe time to fix problems. At times I've had two whole computers fail in a way that made them inaccessible and was glad I had four identical servers so I still had two and at least some redundancy in place... :) (strictly the data was also on six other servers and being continuously synced to them but they also needed to have lots of redundancy and load handling capability!).

I think you will have more success with:

    mega.io

Also try crashplan, backblaze and iDrive to compare.
