How long to do the packing?

This comes up quite regularly on MSE and there's usually a concensus that paying the extra for the packing service is one of those times when it really is worth paying the extra for somebody else to do it. What would you rather have, several weeks of shoving stuff in boxes, or a couple of days of somebody else doing it for you. It really isn't worth saving the money.

I wish I'd paid for the packing service, I left the kitchen until last and it took me about two days, cleaning as I went.£216 saved 24 October 20142

It took me less than a week to pack up about three quarters of the contents of a four bedroom house although I had been decluttering for a couple of months.
DH was still packing his stuff-which I wasn't allowed to touch-when the removal men arrived. He also managed to pack various things that he now needs . Our stuff is in storage and we are staying with family until our new house is ready.
It really depends on how much stuff you have. I don't like the idea of strangers packing my possessions although they did transfer the contents of the wardrobe into wardrobe boxes.1 -
We took about 4 weeks to declutter and sell a good chunk of our things. Actual packing we did over a few weeks leaving the kitchen until last.2

I bought some box's and packed up our big built in wardrobe and some other bits as we thought we were nearing exchange. Our buyer pulled out. But that only took me a day.
When we had a be buyer we exchanged on the Wednesday, box's were dropped off the next day, we began packing the Fri evening after work were pretty much done by the Sunday. I did a tip run the sat and Tues (could have gone about three not times but lockdown and only allowed one trip a week 🙄) and we moved on the Wednesday.
We were moving six people and two cats from a three bed to a four bed. When I start packing I am like a machine, totally focused and it never takes me that long.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1 -
I was hoping to exchange and be moved by mid November and and now booked to move 10th December. I have struggled to pack. Massive blocks and yesterday I was off awaiting Covid tests results and managed 4 whole boxes. That was food as normally my mother has to come to motivate me. 🤣🤣
I exchanged 25th. And will now be packing in Ernest. And have been decluttering as I go.

I think getting packers in depends on your lifestyle and how much stuff you have to pack.Slinky said:This comes up quite regularly on MSE and there's usually a concensus that paying the extra for the packing service is one of those times when it really is worth paying the extra for somebody else to do it. My SIL has a place for everything so it would be easy for packers to come in. Or maybe if you have a lot of ornaments, or have lived in the same house for a long time so accumulated lots of things.
for me, we've moved quite a lot, and we get rid of things each time ... and I'm not organised enough to have packers 😂1 -
I’ve just moved and I a) regret moving in the first place, and b) wish I’d got people in to do the packing. Between work and studying for my MSc the move came very close to breaking this camel’s back.2

I'd rather save the money and do it myself, music on and way I go.
I know I'm moving so do it bit by bit if needed.1 -
I find doing it yourself is a great opportunity to declutter. It does make the packing take longer though.lookstraightahead said:

In the past spent probably a month or two, starting slowly with mostly decluttering and ramping up in the last fortnight or so. If you make sure to keep stuff that belongs together in the same box and not to take anything you don't want, unpacking can be done in a couple of days.2
