  • You can just cancel the claim with your insurer and tell them that you will take it up with the third party, assuming you have their insurance details or number plate to look them up.

    If you claim directly off the third party you don't have to pay any excess, and you have more control over the repair process. The downside is that it's more work on your part. I'd just pay the excess and wait to get it back, if you can afford to lose it temporarily it will save you a lot of hassle.

    And given there are 5 third parties, you could be claiming percentages of your losses from each of them which means negotiating with all of them etc.
