Im surprised the change is resulting in a change of account number and sort code as all's they have to do internally is change the account type and everything remains the same.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own1

Stclair can I ask is it possible for them to do that or I'm gonna have to ask a support worker to help. Can't face this at the mo.0

Starling don't have basic accounts so not sure why that's been suggested.0

If you have a support worker, please speak to them @Deleted User. This is what they are there for.Save £12k in 2025 #33 £2531.77/£5000 (If this carries on I might have to up my target!)

Because Starling doesn't charge fees for bounced payments and the OP seems to be worried about this. Starling is equivalent to a basic bank account charges-wise.penners324 said:Starling don't have basic accounts so not sure why that's been suggested.
Also perhaps more importantly is that if RBS are willing to upgrade the OP to their standard current account then presumably they no longer fit the criteria for the basic account, which will presumably be true at other banks too, meaning they may be offered a normal current account elsewhere (along with all the charges.)1 -
But if the letter says "You don't have to do anything your account number, sort code and debit card will remain the same" what's the problem?DeletedUser said:The letter saysWe want to let you know we are changing your basic account on .....
We are doing this cos we don't offer your existing account anymore.

Not true if you opt for a foundation account.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The problem is apparently that account details will only remain the same if upgrading Basic to a Select. It does not appear to be possible to upgrade/sidegrade from Basic to Foundation.stclair said:

Although the Foundation accounts sounds very much like a Basic account, so not sure what kind of an account the OP has presently.0 -
from RBS website
Our basic Foundation bank account
This account might suit you if you’re not eligible for any of the other accounts you apply for. It's a basic account to help you manage your money. To see whether you're eligible for this type of current account you need to first apply for one of our other accounts like our Select bank account.
Our Select bank account has no monthly fee, and has an option to apply for an Arranged Overdraft, it also comes with a contactless debit card. If you don’t meet the criteria for the Select account we may offer you the Foundation account instead.
To see if you are eligible for our Foundation account:
- Apply online below for our Select account
- During the application process if the Foundation account will better suit your needs we will let you know within your application
You can’t apply directly for the Foundation current account. We’ll offer it to you if we think it might be more suitable after you’ve applied for one of our other accounts.
