Halifax Cashback Credit Card Mastercard (late 2021)

  • Have Halifax discontinued this card? It doesn't appear on their website in the list of available cards, although I'm pretty sure it was there  a couple of months ago. Trying to get an answer from Halifax through webchat, telephone or even letters (not replied to) is nigh impossible!

Both Halifax and Lloyds indicate that I'm pre-approved for the Cashback Card (as an existing customer, via the app), so it's still about.

LBG have this weird thing about being cagey over their range of credit card products until you let them run an eligibility check. That said, there was a page buried on both sites which I can no longer find.
  • Looks like the Lloyds one has gone too

It hasn't. See my post above.
  • It doesn't appear for me when I sign in via the web page or the app. It does offer a rewards / cashback current account but not credit card. The only credit card options coming up are a standard card, 2 balance transfer cards and  the clarity card - It offers to swap my existing Halifax One Mastercard for any of these 4 with the same £14k credit limit but no cashback card appears amongst the options. It also seems to be no longer mentioned anywhere on both the Halifax and Lloyds websites.

Checked again, still being offered it.
  • Mystery solved. After going round in circles and getting nowhere ( Live chat, phone calls and finally a letter) had a phone call from a very helpful chap at Halifax who explained that the reason the cashback card wasn't appearing when I did the eligibility check was because the system won't allow you to have more than one cashback card, so as my existing card was a cashback one (albeit a very old one with a much poorer cashback rate) it wouldn't allow applications for a new one, even if you are going through the "swap card" application process!  He explained that if I first closed my existing account I could then apply for a new card and the option to have a cashback card would then appear on the screen.
