To read your Landis and Gyr electricity meter, press 'B' to light the screen up. You should be given the option for a meter boost - press 'A' to select 'No', and then you should be able to see your electricity reading.
I have a SMETS 1 meter installed by SP a few years ago, and although my current suppliers (Octopus and Zog) can happily take meter readings neither tariff is shown correctly, but then I never bother looking how much we are spending in real time. This maybe because they are unable to update on an older meter.
I use the IHD to read the meters because even though both are SMETS 2 meters Octopus has had real problems reading them. I don't really care about the usage IHD showing - I sort of know that if I cook a stew on gas for 4 hours or override the timing on gas central heating this is going to cost me -
