My energy supplier where I am currently living is Bulb, I am moving house in 3 weeks. I am told by the ownersof the house I am moving into that the tenants energy company last used was Eon.
I need to keep an electricity supplyy at the house I am moving out of until March.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance.

Nothing tricky there. When you move into the new property you will register with E.ON and open an account with them as you must do if they are the current supplier there. For your current house if you are remaining responsible for the energy bill then you just leave your account running. You can't take your supplier with you these days.1

When you move inform EOn at the new house and set up an account with them (take meter read/photos on the day and give them to EOn). You'll go on the deemed SVR tariff - you won't find cheaper at present but keep an eye out for better deals from time to time.
Keep Bulb (or whoever Bulb morphs into or accounts sold on to) at the old house until house is sold in March next year. Take meter reads / photos on sale / transfer / new occupier... Inform Bulb or whoever for your final bill with them.
Two suppliers. Two Bills while you have two 'homes'.
Same with Council Tax, Water, Sewage etc.,.1 -
The moment you move into the new house, take meter readings. Contact Eon and tell them that you've moved in. Refuse all offers of a fixed tariff. If you need to keep the old supply, then you don't have to do anything if you intend popping back from time to time. Otherwise, contact Bulb and ask them to send any bills to the new address. Though if you're doing everything online, it may make no difference. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Great advice/info... thanks... How would I find out for sure if the energy suppliers at my new property were Eon?... the property was tenanted and Im not sure the owners really know for sure. I did an online postcode thing with eon and they said that their records show that there is only electricty at the property which is not true as ive seen the gas safety certificate and the boiler! I can of course phone Eon but if they aren't the suppliers to that property will they be able to tell me who is? I did another survey thing online and that said that property was with Octopus!

Find My Electricity Supplier Note that this is a two-stage process: first find your DNO and they will tell you.1

Trying to set up an account at new house with previous owner supplier (Scottish Power), but when I go on their website to register all I can see is fixed tariffs (much higher than cap), am I missing something or is this Scottish Power policy? thanks for any answers, Nick0

Just write to them *after you take on responsibility for the property* telling them your contact details, date from which tyou are responsible and the meter readings on that date.N. Register your details with both suppliers (Octopus and whoever supplies your electricity) and do not agree to go on a fixed tariff. You need to remain on the standard deemed tariff. Northernpowergrid and Cadent are the distributors (DNOs), not the suppliers
