Using wood pellets in a log burner??

Has anybody tried using wood pellets in a log burner? As pellets are quite a bit cheaper, I was wondering if it's possible/OK? I know on a few sites they say they burn too hot! On others they try selling you an insert. I normally use heat logs so just as dense as pellets, just produced by elephants not mice! Many thanks in advance for any advice.

As someone who almost always burns free fuel i did give some free coffee husk pellets a go( similar to wood pellets & an almost endless supply) .  A home made pellet basket & 40kg of pellets later i gave up in my multifuel direct air eco ready stove.it was just too inconsistant & too much hassle in lighting/ burning & refuelling to be worth the effort.
My experience say's that in no way can my stove emulate the efficient way in which a pellet stove works, either in burning or refuelling.
You could always give it a go as no two stoves & users are the same but for me free wood is the winner even with all the storage & seasoning.

I've used pellets when I could get them at a good price. Scoop up a good pile in the middle of the grate (a dog food scoop is just the tool), pop a fire lighter or scrunched up newspaper on top, and then light. As the pellets burn down, add a few more scoops.
The two issues I had were a lack of dancing flames, and constant feeding.

    There's pellets and there's pellets.

The ones I have are about 2 inches (5 cm) across. I bought sackfuls of them from a local joinery company for very little money.

The good thing is that they light easily, and are good for getting a fire going. The bad thing is that they don't last long. If I try to burn only the pellets, I have to open the stove and throw in another handful every 15minutes.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
