Despite the clear, proven success of introducing competition to the domestic consumer retail energy supply market, the Government still seem to be ploughing ahead with their similar plans towards introducing the same competition to the water supply market. Oh what fun!0

It's worth reading the guidance on the SoLR process:
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/supplier-last-resort-revised-guidance-2016We can direct any gas or electricity supply licensee to take over responsibility for a failed supplier’s customers (i.e. to be a SoLR) after revocation of the failed supplier’s licence.and then:1.23. The Secretary of State may, subject to HM Treasury consent, decide to provide financial support to a company in energy supply company administration. 1.24. The energy administrator must continue to supply customers until the company is either rescued, sold or its customers transferred to other suppliers.1.26. We will only seek the Secretary of State’s consent where we consider that use of our SoLR powers would not be feasible. Where we decide not to seek an energy supply company administration order we will not necessarily use our SoLR powers. We have discretion on whether to revoke a licence, and how to select and appoint a SoLR and as a general rule consider that trade sales are more desirable than regulatory intervention.

Is anyone disputing that smart meters enable energy supplies to be cut off remotely? Which is all I said.EssexHebridean said:It's quite protective against scaremongerers, apparently...1

Not really comparable, water treatment and supply isn't a thing that's generated and traded worldwide and pricing isn't at the whims of if its not windy enough0

So your theory is that they would do that to 1.7m people, most of which would have paid their bills on time, if the worst came to the worst?oliverbrown said:
