What's Your Favourite Sat-Nav App ?

Thanks for the info, and yeah I know that.. I went to a foreign town the other day and it was tricky even following the road markings as it was so busy, it was roundabout after roundabout but we got there and back safely which is the main thing.born_again said:
Step away from the screen & use the signs/road markings. 👍 Personally have waze running all the time, but then again do not really travel much out of our known area.venomx said:Started driving two months ago and all is going well. I do however get a bit stuck in areas or places I've never been to before ( especially which lanes to use ). I recently started using Google Maps Sat-Nav on my phone which seems to help somewhat get me in the right direction for my destination.
Which sat nav do you guys use and do you have any tips for me ?
But wrong lane, so what you just find a new place you have never been before, you get back to where you need to be.
I just find it more reassuring if I know which lane to take in areas i've never visited
Locally i'm absolutely fine. Foreign areas I have to really concentrate

Tested out both apps today and Google Maps for me due to the fact it had much more consistent lane guidance.
However the layout and interface of the Waze is better.0 -
Just remember that the lane guidance isn't always right, you still have to look and use common sense.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

Apple Maps has come on a bundle in recent years. The lane guidance and voices for speed cameras and road names etc is really very good. It will tell you to watch your speed if coming up to a camera and you are going over the speed limit. It’s actually better than the paid for TomTom app.0

Yes very good point. I just find unknown areas where there's multiple lanes daunting sometimes. I suppose the sat nav is good for getting you in the general direction of where you need to get. I'm also getting better at reading road markings as soon as they are visible. Obviously in heavy traffic it's very difficult.EssexExile said:Just remember that the lane guidance isn't always right, you still have to look and use common sense.
Done some more trips with google maps and it works fairly well. But as you said it's best not to rely on the sat nav or focus on it too much and concentrate more on the road and other cars0 -
as someone who works on the road with pretty much zero sense of direction i find Waze the best for me. I used to use a modern TomTom unit with built in traffic feature and have tried google maps also (android phone) but now solely use Waze. Find their traffic info and ETA's given as pretty accurate and like the interface better. the interaction of other Waze users confirming traffic or incident hold ups is also a decent feature that i like. the data used during operation is pretty minimal as well.0

Plus I've had too many near misses with people who are so busy looking at the satnav they don't see the other vehicles around them.
I also think that people should be charged with dangerous driving when they have a satnav/phone stuck to the wind screen. saw one the other day that was directly in front of the person's face. just waiting for a crash.
Pulling out a paper map when you've had to change route is definitely dangerous driving though.
It's all about common sense - look up the route in advance and then use the sat nav as a quick reference whilst focusing on the road. Prioritise your eyes over what the sat nav says.
Back on topic though, I've found google maps is decent enough and has lane indicators in it. My old TomTom unit was a lot clearer for driving though, but harder to set up.

Google Maps is the best option. It has the clearest directions, very easy to read graphics and live traffic data. It also has speed camera warnings, including mobile units.venomx said:Started driving two months ago and all is going well. Waze has too much rubbish in it that distracts you, as well as obnoxious ads.
TomTom isn't worth the money, it's inferior to Google Maps in every way.1 -
