Dehumidifier recommendations please

Hi all,
For the past few years Ive had black mould spots all over the external wall in my bedroom. I try to keep on top of it by spraying bleach and wiping it, but that takes the paint off and the white wall now has smeared black patches.
Ive bought a few of those little plastic dehumidifiers 99p each from Lidl. Ive put them on the floor by the head of the bed, but they will only offer minimal benefit.
I used to have a big old dehumidifier that was very noisey and no doubt power hungry. So I was thinking of buying a modern dehumidifier; one that turns on when it detects moisture in the air, and is also quiet.
Can anyone recommend any?
Ive also been reading these forums, and a lot of people say that opening the window is much much more effective. I will start doing this too, but concerned Im just letting damp air from outside come into the house.
Im sure ventilation does help, but perhaps more so in the summer than in the winter where the air is cold and damp.
Anyway, Id appreciate what others think.
(Perhaps next year I will paint the wall with mould resistant paint)

We have an EcoAir DC18, which is about 3 years old now. It is rather large and it isn’t exactly quiet, but it’s very effective. It can be set to go on and off by itself based on the humidity. We also have a tiny little “Seavon” one I got from Amazon a couple of months ago which is quiet and I’ve been very surprised by its effectiveness, but it is only to cover the loo next to the front door, which is pretty small. I’d say it’s only really suitable for a very small room or cupboards etc. It’s only on or off.Recently we picked up a couple of Silent Night ones from Lidl, which we’ve put in the bedrooms. I’m a little disappointed by how much they collect in comparison to the EcoAir, but they use a different method of extraction and it seems while
its more energy efficient just isn’t as good. They are also manual on/off.I’m going to be getting another EcoAir to use in our bedroom/en suite, as the Silent Night one just isn’t cutting it.1 -
I've just bought the 20L demidifier from Aldi for £120, my front guest room windows were covered in condensation. It's collected about 10L per night, and reduced the humidity from 86 to 52, windows weren't wet.£216 saved 24 October 20140

We have a 20L Meaco - pretty effective, not too noisy, but also rather large.

When i worked in Germany many moons ago, having to start work at 7am and walking to work we noticed that all the Housfraus had the sliding sash windows down and the duvets hanging over them to air out.0
