kezzygirl said:Why would she not change such important documents to her married, and now legal, name? Very oddMy wife kept her maiden name (mainly because mine is hard to spell and pronounce), only our families and 1 friend (who comes from the same area) address my wife by my surname.I think you have to do all or nothing here. If when married you adopt your spouse's name it needs to be for everything or not at all to avoid this type of confusion.Op, do you have your marriage certificate to hand? I can't see US marriages not being recognised here and that might be a quick fix for the issue?May you find your sister soon Helli.

We once had a phone call at work from a woman asking to speak to a Mrs X. Some confusion as we didn't have a Mrs X in the office.
Turned out that the caller was the mother-in-law of the boss, who was still known as Ms Y at work. Caller seemed slightly surprised/offended that Ms Y wasn't using her son's name...1 -
We often give my wife's name as it is easier to spell and people assume it is my name.It helped when we had an incident on holiday to stop our families worrying unnecessarily as if my name had been used the story would have reached them before we could.May you find your sister soon Helli.

With a UK marriage it would be straightforward with the marriage certificate to verify that the two names refer to the same person. Will a US marriage certificate need to be certified in some way? I could imagine an issue if the marriage was performed by Elvis in a drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas ...
