Are you sure they even owned it? They have 200 hotels operated by third parties which are branded TUI
TUI say they own a range of hotels.
They say on that page that they have both, TUI owned or operated plus white labelled hence the Q to the OP when they say TUI have sold it if it may not actually just be the case that the white label has been dropped.
  • It would be very helpful if we knew the name of hotel.

And what reason the friend has given for not going other than "it's not TUI."

Oh dear - seems another Rant & Run poster.

Shame that they didn't actually think to name the hotel in their post.

My guess is it was the TUI Magic Life which was owned and operated by Egyptian company Jaz Hotel Group.  The TUI branding has gone and it is now the Magic World Club by Jaz - same owners.

Concept and ownership (and probably the staff) the same just minus the TUI Magic Life wrapper.

Likely the OP would have exactly the same experience as booked.  Also likely that if addressed politely that TUI would also allow he/she to amend to another "TUI" hotel.

I agree Westin - if it was Magic Life and it won't be then they'd let them do a free amend - there's a lot included with Magic Life - over 120 different activities for a start - if they can't guarantee that the hotel will still provide these then I'd say they aren't getting what they were promised
They could maybe amend to TUI MAGIC LIFE Kalawy in Hurghada or somewhere else

I don't think the OP checked if the hotel would still be providing all the activities, they seemed to have based their decision on a friend telling them not to go if it wasn't TUI.
Unlikely to ever find out though,
