Very true. It's common to find an item priced at, for example, $100 in the USA, for sale in the UK at £100.0 -

I always come back from the States with new clothes though!
Large stores in Edinburgh and London (probably other cities too) routinely accept payment in dollars or euros. Before I go on holiday I often have Euro notes in my wallet.
The OP could have enjoyed some harmless fun with the sales staff if she had offered to pay for her dress with €100
