Yes but I don't have a mastercard credit card and I don't want to use a debit card (reduced protection!)

    No explanations anybody?
    What protection is reduced?
As somebody else pointed out, there is the section 75 protection for credit cards (and yes I sometimes do spend over £100 on Amazon). Also, giving them my debit card details exposes me to more varieties of hacking attacks against my bank account.

This is now the 6th thread on this subject.
Thanks I did a search before posting and didn't see anything!
This is the 5th on on this board today and the other was on the Praise, Vent and Warnings board.

I have always avoided that board just because of the name.
Thanks to you as well for pointing this out, but I just did another search and didn't see any relevant results.
Just look on the 1st page of the Credit Card board, they are all there...

Thanks, at last I can see them. Why doesn't the search facility return them, I wonder?
  • Or get an Amazon Mastercard?
Well, no. I certainly won't be giving Amazon any more insight into my financial life than they already have.
If you get an Amazon Mastercard and only use it for shopping at Amazon what more insight into your financial life do you think they are getting?

Add to that the card is actually run by NewDay, and not Amazon.

Sorry, I oversimplified my reasons for not wanting an Amazon credit card. But it's not worth explaining them any further.
It's interesting that now the real press are beginning to publish about this, some more facts (or at least press claims of facts) are coming to light. This one:

"Visa and Mastercard this year both raised their interchange fees from 0.3% to 1.5% for credit-card transactions between the U.K. and the EU"
from https://fortune.com/2021/11/17/amazon-blocks-uk-visa-credit-card-payments-fee-dispute/ indicates that it's not a case of Visa bad, Mastercard bad.
But I will write to my bank and ask them if they'll supply a Mastercard by January, but otherwise do nothing until things settle out.

Maybe more people will apply for Visa cards as per the many people alleged by the Daily Fail and such like to dislike Amazon...

It is rrelevant who runs the card as those Co-branded credit cards main objective from any of the retail partners is to actually help with customer insight, so that for example they have a view of customer x spending 30% of their wallet with them and 70% with others. Depending on T&c signed up by the customer the level of data sharing may be higher or total. I have worked in several projects involving cobra landed cards and/or customer insight coming from it

Other than when transitioning from one to the other, do any credit card providers supply both Visa and Mastercard cards, and offer customers the choice between them?

If visa credit is your only card, you can use it to buy Amazon gift cards at supermarkets.

No need to get a MasterCard.

The only reason they get charged the higher fee is because they process their payments in Iuxembourg to avoid paying taxes in the UK. If they processed in the UK they would have the 0.3% interchange cap and we'd have more money for public services!
