Neon Reef and Social Energy Supply, which have over 35,000 household customers between them, have become the latest energy providers to cease trading – meaning 19 domestic energy suppliers have gone bust since September. If you're affected, your supply will continue and credit balances are protected. While it's likely you'll pay more now, there are no savings to be had by switching.

I knew the Neon Reef ponzi scheme was up as soon as they were stopped from taking new customers

As soon as I did a quote from then, just before they were stopped from taking on new customers, I thought they possibly wouldn't make it even though most of the talk was about gas price increases.
Someone please tell me what money is

Surprised it took NR this long to fold after Utility Point went under.

A lot of electricity production around the globe is done using gas generators. Therefore if gas prices go up, electricity prices go up with them.
  • My son was with this company and was handed over to British Gas.

Two months after he'd left the rented property (and settled his final bill promptly), he's started getting threatening letters from BG saying he owes money from the Neon Reef transfer. The BG incompetents were sending everything to the address he'd left as well so he'd heard nothing before getting an email from some debt chasing solicitors! After several hours waiting on the phone, calling BG numerous times, they can't provide any written evidence of this bill, just reinforcing that "the figure is correct" - whatever that figure is!
Ombudsman has been contacted but he's stressed with the threat of it ruining his credit status until they can act after 8 weeks.
It's not just when an energy company goes bust that there's hassle!

I was with Neon Reef when they went bust in November 21 and was also transferred to BG. Took until April 22 for the balance owed to be transferred to my BG account ie over 4 months.HOWEVER, it agreed with the final NR bill sent out to me in Dec 21.
Did your son leave the property before the NR balance had been incorporated in the BG account ? If so ,he owes the money but it should agree with the final NR account.

He never got a final bill from NR - and so can't confirm if the stated amount is correct. Worrying thing is, BG don't seem to have this bill either and had heard nothing about this bill in the six months he stayed at the property. They want him to pay on trust, but given their performance with this, I have zero confidence in BG.

You stated that he had settled his final bill promptly in the previous post ? The final bill should be for usage up to 20th November ,and, in my case, was dated 13th December. It was available via the Neon Reef portal. It was possible to pay monies owed direct to Neon Reef in administration but they then agreed to transfer both unpaid debits and credits to BG.
As far as I'm aware BG didn't get copies of the actual billls , just a list of customer details with the amounts that they were in credit or debit.
  • Sorry was talking about the BG final bill when he left the property (which must have had the NR sum included at some point before the August 22 leaving date?).
His 'paperwork' archiving is not what it should be so thank you for the info about what BG received.
Will be as supportive as I can to him whilst he gets it sorted.

Sorry I'm confusing the dates - he left in February after 6 months on a PGCE placement! So they would only have had three months to apply the amount to the BG bills.
