Paying Igloo and E-on switching problem

Options
Hi there,

Is anybody in the same boat as me? I was with Igloo as a duel fuel customer before they went into administration. I was migrated to e-on but E-on told me not to cancel my direct debits for Igloo as they would be transferred over. Igloo continued to take monthly payments of £180 odd in October and November. Today I had an email from E-on saying that they were unable to transfer my Igloo account. I am currently £555 in credit with Igloo. E-on want me to set up a new direct debit and give a meter reading. I deduce from this that they will ignore my credit from igloo and charge me again for the past 2 months energy, which I cannot afford.

I’m not in debt but will be, if I have to pay 2 months back of energy bills. I have asked my bank to refund the direct debits paid to Igloo but this could take months.

So much for energy companies helping people; it appears that they couldn’t give a hoot.

any advice would be welcome.

Any credit you have with Igloo will be transferred to your new account with Eon Next when your final Igloo bill is produced.

slightly similar situation but not exactly the same

was an Igloo customer, saw the writing on the wall and switched to EDF 3 Year fixed a couple of days before Igloo ceased trading. £600 credit balance with igloo,(took my last DD a few days after the switch). Now Eon has the credit and EDF are taking new DD's. Chased Eon for weeks now, but no sign of my refund - I'm sure it will happen, but when? I've been told also that refund will be by cheque! - who issues cheques these days? - just a delaying tactic to improve their cash flow.
  • Advice seems to have been from some quarters, leave your Igloo DD in place and Eon.Next will transfer it over when they set up a new account for you. Yep ok that's the good advice, I didn't, why should I be in a position like the above have experienced. Ok I'll need to pay at least two months payments if they finally bill me come the end of November. At least I've not given Igloo any more money, why would you if they are defunct and not supplying you anymore?
Anyways, account set up with Eon, DD in place, I await news how much indeed to pay them. I have £127 credit owed from Igloo, assured it will be applied to my account, no mention of them sending me a cheque, yet.

Technically they are in administration rather than defunct. And there is a well defined and regulated connection between the old supplier and the SOLR, so you really don't need to worry that it is some scam to relieve you of your money. Inevitably it's a somewhat time consuming process.

The payment by cheque would only apply if you have left Igloo before this all started and are therefore not a customer of the SOLR with an account, but are still owed money by Igloo. In your case it won't apply as you do have an account with the SOLR.
  • Hi All,

thank you for your comments. Very interesting reading. I have emailed E-on a couple of times and got a scripted answer. They are just keen for me to set up a direct debit and give them a reading. My worry is that they will bill me from my final reading with Igloo to date, regardless of my credit and, in a few months possibly, I might get a cheque, or they’ll credit my account. This means, my bill will be in excess of £550. I don’t have that kind of money. I budget for my bills and I’m cross that E-on gave the advice to continue with my dd. My instinct was to cancel the dd and put the money by. This will put me in debt until I get my credit from Igloo back. At this time of year, it’s most unfair.

Message on E.on Next account dashboard  "We're still working with Igloo to arrange the transfer of any credit balance you may have held with them. Once we've got this we'll apply it to your account and release your bill This means the balance we're showing you at the moment may not be correct. Please don't worry, any credit balance you had with Igloo will be protected"
    Bill/Statement was issued though

  • Hi Jenny555,

I'm in the same boat, but about 6 months ago, made Igloo send me my credit back, they were not keen...clearly I know why now!. Think I only had £60 odd in credit once they went to the wall, so not to bad. I have paid two lots of £133 in October and November to Igloo. This week got the message to set up the direct debit with Eon, so I have done that and sent the new meter readings. It shows I owe then £179! But, they cannot give me my credit yet and nothing is showing that the last 2 months payments, which does concern me. So the £266 that I paid will this be put against the £179 and I am in credit again? Plus the £60 already on the Igloo account?

I have cancelled my Igloo direct debit. And set up the £85 DD with eon...just not sure if they are no gong to take £179!

Glad its not just me, that feels at a loose end!

PS Jenny once you do get it sorted with Eon request your credit back, always leave about £70 in credit but otherwise, but your money in savings!

    Best of luck

I cancelled my Igloo direct debit after they took the October one.
E.On emailled to say they couldn't transfer my DD from Igloo but I can set up a new one, so did.
Account transferred to them on the 20th of November but no sign of my ~£300 odd credit from Igloo.  Will contact them to make sure it's on it's way.  Shame it couldn't be in the account (even if a "loan" from E.on) to save me messing about.
  • Similar situation - made more complicated because I moved house just as they told me they were switching my account to Eon.
Howver the new house already had a smart meter installed with Utility Warehouse so I phoned them and was set up within minutes.

had a credit balance of £350 with Igloo, and received an email off Eon saying to leave the DD in place for now. Just last week Igloo took another DD of £130 - even though I'm already paying UW and the new owner of my previous home is with Eon anyway. I'm going round in circles with Igloo / Eon trying to get a refund.

Good to know others are in this unfortunate position. With previous experience of cowboy energy companies in mind, the first thing I did was cancel the DD! What concerns me is the wording in E-on email:

    • If your Igloo account was in credit on 2 October, we'll work with the administrators to try to transfer both your credit balance and any Direct Debit payments taken by Igloo during October and November to your E.ON Next account - so keep an eye out for that.
They will *try* to transfer the balance (£85) in my case. I've set up a DD with E-on but have not had any real progress. Oh yes, I can't get Firefox browser to connect to my new E-on account tho MS Edge does work (they also admitted an IT glitch a few days back if anyone is having trouble it seems to be fixed now).
